Three players were spotted taking some unlikely units in some unlikely factions. Check out the Homebrew winners of the Midnight Sun GT and their lists!
The Midnight Sun GT had over thirty players come together and put their armies to the test in the ITC format. The top winners of the event had some one-of-a-kind lists that ended up sealing their place as winners!
Necrons Take On a New Style
This Necron list comes from Coulson Knowles who took the husk of a current meta Necron list and put his own spin on it. With only six CP to start with, he had to make sure he knew when to use those Stratagems. Beyond that, he had a fairly low model-count army but had a high-toughness average, which is great against any kind of army with shooty-screens. The three Doom Scythes and Doomsday Arks are a Necron “go-to” unit option right now with their fast-moving and tank hunting capabilities. However, this player rolled with eighteen Tomb Blades and six destroyers as well.
The Tomb Blades in the list were armed with Tesla which shreds infantry screens to bits. And for a bit more staying power, he threw a few 3++ invuln-giving wargear at them. These guys were fast, durable, and a -1 to hit in shooting. What more could you want?
Finally, the Destroyers were taken because the reroll literally everything Strat is just too good to pass up. Plus, they helped fill out an Outrider detachment. Great job!
Robbie G Shows Up To a List He’s Not Invited To
This list comes from Linton Rowan, who managed to finish in 2nd place overall from the event. Starting off with a Vanguard, he went with three melee wrecking balls of Wulfen with mostly Storm Shields and Thunder Hammers. These were all led by a Wolf Priest and Rune Priest in Phobos Armor.
For CP, a Battalion of Ad Mech was taken. Ad Mech are one of the cheapest Battalion CP batteries out there only costing 180 pts! And finally, Roboute Guilliman made a guest appearance in the list as an Auxilliary Lord of War.
As long as we’ve been covering tournaments and lists, we’ve never seen Roboute Guilliman thrown into a top list where his rerolls don’t matter as much. Usually, it’s an all-Ultramarines gun line list where he acts like a force multiplier. However, in this list, he was a one-man battleplan. Between three squads of Hammer Wulfen and Guilliman on the table, the enemy had some serious targets to chew through.
Overall, it seems like Space Wolves are starting to make a resurgence back into the meta. And this list proves the Robbie G can be thrown into any Imperial list and still be good. –Magnus and Morty do it so why can’t we!
An All-Admech List Takes 1st Place
The fact that we’re seeing an all-Ad Mech list coming in first place is already unique enough. However, some of the units we saw this player take haven’t been anywhere in the meta since the start of 8th! Cawl opened up with a Battalion leading some Breachers, a couple of Dune Crawlers, and an Electro-Priest assault drill bomb.
There’s not a lot more scary than seeing a rusty drill come up from the ground with a bunch of static bois Naruto running to your tanks.
Another Battalion was taken with a bigger squad of Infiltrators hitting the board (probably for some early mid-field objective grabbing) and three Skorpius Disintegrators. Taking the Belleros Energy Cannon, these were designed to prey on Elites and light armor. Overall, this list had decent firepower/damage output spread across multiple units that made it hard for the opponent to pick the “biggest” threat. Great job!
