40k’s Top Unbeatable Mono-Faction Army: Dallas Open GT

thousand sons

Has 40k’s age of soup started to crack? Don’t miss this undefeated mono-build army for Warhammer 40k won the Dallas Open GT.

We live in an Age of Soup in 40k, but with the new mono-build ITC format that meta is starting to crack. It looks like Chaos is leading the way to mono-town.

The Dallas Open will be hosting its 2nd weekend of tabletop gaming fun, expanding this year from just a 40k GT to a Friday night knight joust and kill team and a 40k GT, 40k Narrative, and Horus Heresy event for Saturday and Sunday.

Before we jump into the 1st place winner, we’ll be going over the 2nd and 3rd place lists first. Thanks to Best Coast Pairings, we can look back and see what everybody scored just like we were at the event.

3rd Place: Aeldari- Philip Junghans

Eldar Feature

This is the classic Eldar list that looks to be settling into the meta. It’s essentially all the Eldar flyers trying to take up as much board presence as they can.

The nasty thing about the Crimson Hunter Exarchs is that they can pivot, move, and pivot again. If a player has two of them, he can effectively deny any kind of deepstrike in his deployment all game. Looking at the rest of the list, there’s some Kabal of the Black Heart for an Agents of Vect strat and Yvraine for psychic coverage. All in all, this list has proven itself to be brutal and scraped up a 3rd place win.

2nd Place: GSC- Nick Rose

Genestealer Cults finished in second and we’ve got a lot to cover. Genestealer Cult is one of the hard armies to talk about simply because it’s the “swiss army knife” army.

The entire faction has useful units that can pop up anywhere and react to what the opponent is doing. To break everything down to its core, however, the mortars would clear the screens turn one. On turn 2, the Jackals would make their way through the gap made by the mortars and clear out whatever kind of armor that was being protected.

The nasty thing about the Jackals is that for just 1CP, up to five models can throw a demolition charge. That’s 5D6 S8 shots doing D3 damage a piece. Of course, there’s your classic Kelermorph to destroy a character if he steps out of line and a Clamavus to help secure the Cult’s backfield and boost his Guard buddies. All in all, it’s a solid list with tons of reaction. Great job.

1st Place: Thousand Sons- Matthew Allee

So, this list just drowned the opponent in power armor. The real heavy hitters of the list are Ahriman, two Daemon Princes with claws, and the two massive blobs of Tzaangors.

Tzaangors can come into melee contact quicker than just about anything in the game and they are devastating. Plus at essentially 2 attacks a piece at -1 AP, they are a screen’s worst nightmare. All in all, we could see the list working like a well-oiled machine.

The Rubric Marines screened and captured points while the Tzaangors hit as much stuff as they could. For the especially annoying things that had to go, the player would sick a Daemon Prince on them and Ahriman was just a psychic machine gun all game. Great job on this all-Thousand Sons list! In the age of soup, you haven’t cracked.

What do you think about these lists? Is power armor not as bad as we thought it was? Do you stick to a mono-faction army or do you play soup? Let us know in the comments of our Facebook Hobby Group.
