Allocation Hit Hard For New 40k Custodes & Orks Battleforces

allocations-custodes-orks-games-workshopGW slapped heavy allocations on the new 40k Adeptus Custodes and Orks Battleforces, leaving hobbyists and stores with few options…

It looks like allocations are back again for the new Warhammer 40k releases. We had a period of a few months without them, but this is the second week in a row (Drukhari/Night Lords Kill Team Box was also heavily allocated) with challenging availability.

Heavy Allocations Hamstring New 40k Custodes & Orks Battleforces

  • Auric Champions: 2-3 per store

So far, all stores we monitor worldwide, including larger companies in the UK like Element Games, have reported allocations.

This feels bad, considering all the new miniatures for the armies (we know it’s just two new minis, but still) are paywalled into these Battleforces. Not only that, the combat patrols have pretty subpar value this time around, meaning people can only really get these to kickstart their army and save some hobby dollars.

Other than the codexes, these are also the main boxes we expect people to buy. So, while they will be extremely hard for hobbyists to get, the stores also get shafted. Instead of selling ten and making a decent profit, they are pretty capped with such small numbers for arguably two of the most popular armies outside of Space Marines.

“Due to unprecedented demand, we are providing a one-time opportunity to request an increase for the Kroot Army Box.”

Oh, but if you want the Kroot Hunting Pack, GW has stores covered with the ‘privilege’ of ordering more, which may be more proof that whoever is doing Games Workshop’s production forecasting is simply out of touch with what consumers want.

We had a couple of months of decent allocations (or caps, as GW calls them), so it’s a shame they’re coming in back-to-back weeks. While we won’t call it a pattern quite yet, it’s concerning to see them returning.

While it’s unclear if this is a long-term trend or just a temporary blip, it’s definitely a situation worth keeping an eye on.

Overall, the return of heavy allocations for Warhammer 40k releases can be frustrating for both hobbyists and stores alike. The limited availability of the new Adeptus Custodes and Orks Battleforces in North America means that many hobbyists will have a hard time getting their hands on these high-value boxes.
