Anycubic D2 reviewThis Anycubic Photon D2 setup review shows 3d printing for Warhammer miniatures and if it’s actually better than LCD prints from a similar printer!

Fauxhammer has some amazing hobby content, and if you need some sweet tips, you should follow him to get up on all your painting and conversion techniques!

We’ll just say this to start; he actually thinks the DLP is better than LCD for miniatures, so he obviously likes this printer! He even thinks it’s better than the pro, but we’ll take a look at the specs and all the reasons he thinks it is better.

Anycubic D2Let’s start with the specs on this bad boy and then jump into the video.

  • [𝐃𝐋𝐏 𝟑𝐃 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲], Anycubic Photon D2 uses thousands of mirrors (DMDs) to concentrate light directly to the bottom of the 3d Printer resin tank, minimizing light source distortion and diffusion, achieving better printing accuracy than LCD 3D machines of the same resolution.
  • [𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐲], Due to the Double light uniformity algorithm, Photon D2 3d Printer can raising the light uniformity up to more than 92%. and with an anti-aliasing algorithm, the anti-aliasing effect is significantly enhanced, bringing better details to the miniatures.
  • [𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠], Empowered by the DLP projector that has a lifespan of 20,000 hours, 10X more durable than an LCD printer screen, and printer power is low as 15W, 1/4 of LCD printer, allowing you to save a lot of money.
  • [𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐞𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞], Compared with ordinary 3d printers that generate a lot of heat when running, DLP 3d printers generate low heat can be directly dissipated without fans, the sound of the machine working is as low as 35 db and hardly noticeable
  • [𝐋𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧], Compared to the Anycubic Photon Ultra, the printing volume of the Anycubic Photon D2 3d machine increases by 62% to reach 130.5mm x 73.4mm x165 mm/5.13 in x 2.88 in x 6.49 in

Negatives

Anycubic D2 review 3He wanted to get these out first, so, to start (and the only real thing), the USB being on the side of the printer is extremely annoying; just put it on the front already!

What Fauxhammer Likes About the Anycubic Photon D2

Anycubic D2 review 5Now that the technical issues are out of the way, here’s what he likes about the printer:

  • He was able to port over his setting from the previous Anycubic, and it worked almost perfectly, with just a little increase in exposure time.
  • The D2 is larger than the Ultra and doubles the resolution.
  • The print area is 5.9″, which also improves the resolution.
  • This is far more accurate as the new tech allows it to be much more accurate.
  • Due to how direct the projected light is, you get much more accuracy.
  • Overall, this has just been far more detailed than most printers.
  • This actually surpasses the 8k in many ways.
  • The resin is less brittle, which means less breaking.
  • It consumes much less energy than LCD printers (75% less).
  • Dissipates much less heat, meaning no fan.
  • The projector is projected to last ten times longer than LCD.
  • Protected glass, and can just scrape off resin instead of having to replace the whole screen.
  • Basically, it’s cheaper to run and takes less maintenance.

Comparisons to Other 3D Printers

Anycubic D2 review 2Just to start, this is how LCD and DLP compare (DLP on the left), so pretty interesting to see the crispness of both.

Anycubic D2 review 6As you can see in the hair, it really gives you more detail. This also keeps image bloat down.

Final Thoughts

Anycubic D2 review 4He would go with this if you want an easier printer that can still have amazing detail! If you want to paint your minis up to win painting competitions, the 8k is smoother, but for just a regular wargamer, he would go with this all day. It uses less power, operates quieter, and takes much less maintenance.
