Calling all Watch Masters! The new Deathwatch codex FAQ is here with a few changes that are definitely worth taking note of!
Now that the Deathwatch Codex has been out for a little while, GW has put out a FAQs with a few points to balance things further. The new FAQ hit this morning and there are a few changes to be aware of:
HQ Wargear Options
Nothing major in these errata. Some changes in wargear options. Looks like you’ll be getting more options with Terminator HQs.
Intercessors & Corvus Blackstar
They changed Intercessors to have access to grenade launchers like other chapters. But the big change here is the Corvus Blackstar. It used to reroll saves of 1 (which may have been a typo as the wargear entry had the old and now FAQed version of the rules in the very same book).
Now, it’s effectively -2 to hit for enemy units that can FLY as long as it’s not in hover mode.
The Deathwatch is geared towards punishing Xenos scum and when you think about it, most Xenos things fly. Any faction of Aeldari has a boatload of flying units, Necrons have fly with Destroyers and Ghost Arks. We can’t forget about the dreaded Hive Flyrant either.
This FAQ may have made the Corvus Blackstar a little bit more viable but it has to be played on the tabletop to judge for sure
Editors note: I feel like this was a NERF from the blanket re-roll 1’s to save it was published with.
Other FAQs
The comprehensive list of FAQs is here. Mostly minor but it definitely clears some of the questions we’ve had. With Dragonfire Shells ONLY working when something is in cover. Not having a bonus-giving effect of being in cover. The Xenophase blade is still really good and No, you can’t cheese out a Watch Captain with 2 swords.
What do you think about these FAQs? Deathwatch seems generally unaffected and still competitive. Have you tried the Corvus Blackstar before the FAQ? Let us know in the comments on our Facebook Hobby Group.
