Be’lakor The Dark Master: Unboxing

By Travis Pasch | May 3rd, 2021 | Categories: 40k News & Articles

Be'lakor feature rBe’lakor the Dark Master has arrived at the studio, check out Rob’s latest unboxing and build of the newest mini!

We’re back unboxing the newest addition to both 40k and Aos! Rob sees what it takes to get it ready for the tabletop, shows the size of the model compared to other minis, tells you the GOTCHAS to be aware of when building it, and where to find the updated building sheets.

We are going to show you everything including the bits, size comparisons, and everything included. That way you can decide if this is worth your hard-earned hobby dollars.

Editor’s Note: Be’lakor is of course going for a premium right now as supply has outstripped demand.  There are currently some on eBay as well as Amazon, but they are not anywhere near retail price, unfortunately.

Be’lakor The Dark Master: Unboxing & Build

Get Yours For Less From Amazon or Dicehead Games!

Be'lakor boxWell, unfortunately, these were insanely allocated, and even online it was near impossible to grab one. Rob drove about two hours to get his from an LGS, but in the end, he nabbed one! We’ve talked a ton about current allocations, if you want to see more, you can check that out here. Let’s just hope when they open back up in May, things won’t be quite as bad.

They also put up a PDF of updated building instructions because there are two small differences between the original and the updated sheets, which you can find here. There’s also a chance the 40k rules in the box are incorrect, but with all that said, let’s hop into the unboxing.

Instructions

be'lakor instructionsRob is hoping you can build this and leave off the stuff of the base so you can use this as either 40k or Aos. After further inspection, the good news is it looks like you could magnetize the casualty mini on the base, or just leave it off so you can use it in both game systems.

They give you a bunch of detailed views throughout to help make the build easier and give you a bunch of angles. Rob thinks these are some of the best instructions he’s seen in a while, so hopefully, that will make building it that much easier.

be'lakor instruction 2Once you get to this stage, you’ll have to decide which chest piece you want and that will also change how it sockets into the shoulder. The head has a ton of pieces with the jaw, tongue, etc… so that could be a bit of an issue. This is also where the original instructions are wrong. So if you’re having problems with the arms, be sure to grab the updated sheet.

be'lakor instructions 3The wings have the same assembly no matter what game system you play. The only difference is what is in the chains. Rob recommends going more generic if you ever want to play it in both. They do look a little complicated, so just be sure to really pay attention to the numbers on the parts here. The big mystery is there is no real shot of the back of the mini, which could make it harder.

Sprues

Be'lakor sprue

Be'lakor sprue 2The sprues are insanely detailed with a ton of texture to make painting that much easier. There will be some mold lines to trim off, and there aren’t a ton of lock-in parts on the wings. Other than that, the sprues seem really amazing!

Reprint Instructions

reprint differencesLike we said before, the one thing that’s different between the reprinted instructions and the original is the hand. There are actually two hand variants, and the original instructions only included the first one. If you are having trouble with that part, be sure to go print out the updated sheet from GW.

Built Mini

Be'lakor builtRob did him as neutral as possible so you can play it in either AoS or 40k. The build is wonderful overall, and there are no big gotchas that will slow you down.

Be'lakor built 2Both the casualties can lay down on the base easily, but it doesn’t take much away from the mini without them on there. One nice thing is Be’lakor slots into the base easily and you can actually pop him off if you want. Overall this is a great design and for how big it is, it went together super quickly with basically no issues.

Size Comparisons

be'lakor size

be'lakor size 2As you would expect, it towers over the regular Primaris Marine or Stormcast!

be'lakor size 3When compared to Mortarion, he’s pretty close in size but not quite as CHONKY.

be'lakor size 4He’s not as swole as the Bloodthirster, but does give it a run for its money! Still, it’s so much bigger than the original mini!
