We’re going to break this down into sections for each type of world, so no matter where you want your battle to take place, you should be able to find it!

The Best Warhammer 40k Ruined World Terrain

Best Warhammer 40k TerrainSo many battles take place on ruined worlds, and there is plenty of terrain to represent that! Whether you are trying to destroy a world or protect it, plenty of cities will be destroyed. If you’re looking for pre-made kits, there are a ton out there, including the Battlezone: Manufactorum – Sanctum Administratus and the Sector Imperialis Ruins from GW.

These will get you almost a full table of terrain that will look great on the tabletop. They do require painting and gluing, but there’s nothing wrong with a little extra hobbying! If you’re looking for the most common of battlefields, you really can’t go wrong with ruins. as almost any world could have a ton of them and just make for fun thematic games!

There are a ton of other companies that make this style of terrain too, and we’ll take a look at them below.

Battlefield/Outpost Terrain

Best Warhammer 40k Terrain 4Sometimes, you aren’t attacking a city but actually trying to take down a defensible position or outpost! This can make for some super fun games and really great scenarios. It only makes sense that sometimes in the Grimdark, you need to take out a stronghold, and there is plenty of terrain to show that off!

Most notably, from GW, you can score the Battlezone: Fronteris – Nachmund to get an entire table of terrain that makes an outpost with landing pads, defenses, and even a com-tower. You can also score these pieces on their own if you don’t need a full table.

Best Warhammer 40k Terrain 3Then, you can go more for an entire defensive line with the Aegis Defence Line and make an entire string of embankments your enemy has to cross over to get to your troops!

Best Warhammer 40k Terrain 2Lastly, you can always make an Adeptus Mechanicus outpost with things like the Sector Mechanicus Sacristan Forgeshrine and show off how strongly you would defend your Forge World!

Alien World Terrain

mekboy workshopThere are tons of Xenos worlds out there, and they often find themselves besieged by all kinds of armies! So, it’s always great to see full battlefields of nothing but alien terrain. Luckily, there are plenty of pieces out there you can make or buy to represent them.

Games Workshop has plenty of things, like the Mekboy Workshop, which looks great on the table and will represent all the Orks out there! For the Tau, they have a few pieces, including the Tidewall Droneport and Shield Wall. For the Aeldari side things, they have the Warpgate and the Convergence of Doom for the Necrons!

The Best Warhammer 40k Jungle Terrain

Trees TerrainIf your army is something like Catachan or Kroot, playing on jungle terrain is just amazing. Even if you don’t play those armies, any army could easily be invading or defending a jungle world. Jungle terrain from GW is a little hard to come by these days as they pretty much just have a tree set currently.

However, there are plenty of other companies out there who make all kinds of great jungle terrain that we talk about below.

Best Star Wars: Legion & Shatterpoint Terrain

Star Wars LEgion terrainWell, if you’re into sci-fi games, there is a ton of amazing Star Wars: Legion terrain out there! If you’re playing a game as thematic as Legion, you’re going to want to compliment it with incredible terrain. Much of the terrain for the game can be 3D printed; however, AMG has some great offerings as well.

This includes the Imperial Bunker, the Priority Supplies Battlefield Expansion, and even barricades.

Star Wars LEgion terrain 2If you want a ton of terrain for the game in one buy, Tabletop Terrain has a giant collection of terrain, and this is just a tiny amount of what you can score from them!

Best Age of Sigmar Terrain

Best AoS TerrainWhile we’ve mainly talked about 40k terrain, there is also a great need for awesome AoS terrain! There are a ton of awesome companies out there, but GW has some terrain (not counting the pieces for each faction); you can always pick up the Realmscape Expansion set to really have a big settlement to fight over!

Luckily, though, they actually have more trees than the 40k side with the Wyldwoods. While this can be utilized by Sylvaneth, it also gets you a bunch of trees in one buy. However, there are a ton of companies out there with a bunch of awesome terrain sets for Age of Sigmar as well:
