How much of a value will the new Prospero Burns box set be compared to the Betrayal at Calth? The answer may surprise all of us.
At first look the new Prospero box has an additional unit compared to it’s Calth sister box set from last year, plus it’s characters are in a separate clampack configuration that may lead so some very interesting pricing later on.
Betrayal at Calth Pricing:
- Heroes Box $50
- Mark IV Marines $50 (x3 Units)
- Cataphractii Terminators $65
- Contemptor Dreadnought $60
Total MSRP: $325 Box Set Savings $175 (Roughly 54% off)
Now let’s take a look at the Prospero Burns Box Set:
The contents are listed as
- Ahirman
- Greigor ? Fell-Fell Hand
- 5 Tartaros Terminators
- 30 Legion Veterans (Mk III armor)
- 5 Custodian Guard $60
- 5 Sisters of Silence $65
Compared to the pricing we saw above last summer when the Calth models released separately we could see something like the following if / when these units become available in box set form.
Keep in mind, this is purely speculation on our part as to the future retail prices of these models.
- Ahirman $30
- Greigor $30
- 5 Tartaros Terminators $65
- 30 Legion Veterans (Mk III armor) $50 each?
- 5 Custodian Guard $60
- 5 Sisters of Silence $40
Those prices would bring the separate retail to $375 with a box set savings of $225 (Roughly 60% off). So at least in theory this could be a better deal price wise than the Betrayal at Calth was.
I would imagine that Greigor and Ahirman being separate sprues would allow GW to sell them in Clampack form separately for at least $30 each, but perhaps more like the $33 price point we see the named characters going for after their bundle box sets are discontinued.
I also don’t think that it’s too far fetched to put a price of $60 on the Custodes when the Blood Angel and Dark Angel Terminators sets are $60 as well.
So that really just leaves the Sisters unit up to pure speculation. What do you price this set at?
Do you put it on par with elite level human models like Guard, or with kits like the Vanguard / Sternguard? Will a speculative price of $40 stick? We’ll find out probably next summer if Games Workshop follows the same path to market with the Burning of Prospero that they did with Betrayal at Calth
