Last September we posted an article showing the power that Chaos had in their grips now. Well well well, guess what the winning list at LVO this years was?

LVO was, as always, an amazing event with players bringing out their best lists and strategies trying to leave with that #1 spot. Every year it’s always an argument of which faction has the best army for the competition.

Well the guessing game is over.

Don’t get caught slipping the next time you fight Chaos, these guys can pack some serious firepower now, and wield it masterfully!

We knew Chaos had an great chance at taking home the top slot at LVO, did you? In case you missed the previous article, 3 Powerful New Rules for Chaos That We Overlooked?, here it is:

The Siege of Vraks Second Edition isn’t that old, but a lot of folks out there may have missed a few rules that when combined with a formation in that book, really crank up Chaos’ firepower to 11.

Everyone knows that Wyverns are one of the best units out there point for point, but what if you can ally them into a Chaos Army AND they had additional abilities like being able to target friendly models with their blast templates?

Checkout the Purge Detachment from Siege of Vraks:

the purge vraks book

1 HQ 2 Elite Choices and a nifty command benefit.

Now Combine that with the Ordnance Tyrant upgrade:

Renegade strike battery vraks

That unlocks Renegade Strike Batteries as Elites now:

Now checkout all the rules that stack together to make these Strike Batteries really shine!

  • Salt the Earth – Command benefit that creates areas of difficult terrain around the battlefield, and can be a real initiative pain for Monstrous Creatures, Knight Titans and heck just launching assaults in general.
  • Ordnance Tyrant – His rules allow placing blast templates on FRIENDLY models as long as the hole of the template is on the enemy. Additionally he allows you to also target enemy models locked in combat as well.

405 Points gets you six Wyverns and the Tyrant, easily do-able for a lot of Chaos lists out there currently, and hopefully new ones going forward using the new Traitor’s Hate supplement.

So The Purge may be is a neat little way of shoehorning in Renegade Wyverns into any Chaos Army list, as they are allowed to ally with Chaos Space Marines per their faction rules.

Time to stock up on your small blast templates?

Checkout how it plays with the Astra Militarum even, on the Tabletop Battle Report below:

I’m a huge fan of anything tabletop. I play strictly Chaos in Warhammer, and Imperial in anything Star Wars. I spent 8 years in the military. Now I’m happy to be a civilian working with a great group of people.
