Converting & Painting Cyborks: eBay Miniature Rescue
He bought these minis for really cheap off of eBay, wow, big surprise! They came with the robot legs, but he wanted to take them a little further in the painting and conversion process. Let’s see how he does it!
Conversion & Covering the Gray
To start off his conversions, he wanted some different heads. So he dug out some awesome Kromlech heads he had lying around and got started. Since some of the minis still had some gray parts, he hit those areas with Synylrez Green Primer before throwing on the new heads.
The Base Coats
With the airbrush, he uses some pink skin tone and does a topdown highlight on all the skin areas, that he just hit with the green. For the metal, he uses Vallejo metal colors and just does a good base coat on all of them. He uses blue for the cloth and Scale 75 Brown for the leather. To finish the base coat off, he does a quick wash over the entire minis with a brown wash.
Painting the Rust
He starts with a liberal layer of Brown Enamel Wash and hits all of the metal. The second step is to clear away some of the wash with makeup remover brushes that takes off the wash where he doesn’t want it to be as rusty. You don’t want to take too much away but give it a good contrast.
To take it one step further, and set up for the next step, he dips the brush in odorless mineral spirits. This will take it away very quickly so be careful. This will make the next step when you use the acrylic paint, spread out naturally. To finish it off, he loads up his brush with some orange and dots the paint around to really bring out the rust.
Bluetoofs
To live up to the name, he gives a little blue tinge to the teeth. And that’s the final step to finish them off!
Finished Minis
Overall, he only spent about 30 minutes on each mini. Just a super fun little project to add to his army!
