Renegade Chapters of Chaos Marines are also getting some love in Vigilus Ablaze. Check out their rules, relics, and other spicy stratagems!
Warhammer Community officially previewed the support coming to Renegade Chapters like the Red Corsairs. Let’s get into what they’ll be bringing. Up to this point, we feel like these are the most competitive rulesets we’ve seen.
Renegade Traits To Choose From
Now, instead of the Renegade Chapters trait from the codex, you can pick from one of six Renegade Traits. Each is designed around the unique methods of war pioneered by the respective Renegade Chapter it represents.
Looking at the Crimson Slaughter’s ability, it’s fluffy and definitely more competitive than the other things we’ve seen so far. The Crimson Slaughter are tormented by voices of spirits and only hear a moment of silence when they do their bidding. To show this on the table, when you kill a unit, you’ll roll a 5+ and get a CP back!
Massing up melee-geared Red Corsairs may be in your best interest! You’ll be able to advance and charge with these units and already start your games with more CP benefits. If you take a Battalion of wholly Red Corsairs Marines, for example, you’ll also be getting an additional 3CP. Now that’s nice!
Renegade Stratagems
Looking at the Purge, they are coming with a nifty ability to shoot into the crowds of their own men locked in combat. it’s useful because you have the ability to shoot the enemy off of your guys freeing them up to shoot at something else or even charge again! Just don’t roll any 1’s.
Prescience is essentially a better Auspex Scan. There’s no -1 to hit! Keep in mind this is only for Scourged Infantry.
Renegade Warlord Traits
The Brazen Beasts Warlords are the most feared headhunters in the galaxy. Gear up a fast hard-hitting Warlord and hunt the enemy characters down. You’ll be able to att +2 to Strength and Attacks! There’s no limit to what this guy can get to either! Want a S12 14 attack-having Chaos Lord?
The Scourged have a Warlord Trait that essentially shuts down a unit until everyone else has fought. It’s useful to keep your Warlord alive and essentially let him bully them into submission.
Artifacts of the Renegades
a 9″ reroll 1’s to hit along with an extra attack isn’t too shabby. You’ll definitely have more force multiplication with the added range.
Going back to the Red Corsairs, you can give your character a tricked-out combi melta. The boltgun side of thins is nasty getting a whopping six shots at 2D for rapid fire.
The Fallen Make an Appearance!
If you take Cypher with a band of Fallen Angels, you’ll have some pretty good chances at sabotaging the enemy preventing any abilities, Warlord Traits, or Relics from generating CP.
If you really want to protect a Fallen Angels unit, throw them in cover and make them -1 to hit for an entire phase. it’ll only cost you 1Cp!
All in all, we feel like the Red Corsairs definitely made it out the best from all these Renegades. They can advance and charge AND start the game with more CP than any other Marine faction. The Crimson Slaughter is a close second. However, let us know what you think about the latest word on the Renegade Chapters in the comments of our Facebook Hobby Group.
