New Thunderhawk Flies High in Debut Diorama Display

Death on Khendrel IV display ThunderhawkWarhammer World has a new diorama for the public to enjoy. Come take a look at the Death on Khendrel IV display featuring the new Thunderhawk.

We’ve been seeing the progress of the new diorama teased over the past month, and it’s finally complete. Let’s see what Warhammer Community had to say about the new Death on Khendrel IV display.

Warhammer World has a new diorama to celebrate the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 and it’s one of our best yet, depicting the Dark Angels fighting to reclaim the industrial world of Khendrel IV from the clutches of the Death Guard.

The new display was a chance to demonstrate Space Marines on the offensive, doing what they do best – striking from orbit and crippling the enemy in a single, brutal action. Enormous displays like the Battle for Angelus Prime already depict the Imperium mounting desperate defenses against hordes of invaders, and while these are cool, it’s exciting to see this dynamic reversed, with the Death Guard on the defensive, scrabbling to repel the invaders with hordes of Poxwalkers, Plague Marines and even a heavily converted Reaver Titan.

There’s a number of narratives that emerge when looking at the display, and we won’t spoil all of them here, but one of the best is watching Primaris Space Marines working in tandem with their brothers in the Ravenwing and Deathwing. As Terminators distract the foe and Thunderhawk Assault Gunships clear the skies, the Primaris Space Marines – led by a Captain in Gravis Armour – form a beachhead, backed up by Tactical Marines in Drop Pods

The display isn’t just a visual marvel but a technical one too, featuring new techniques developed during the project. Most impressive among these (and Studio Manager James Karch’s favourite) is seen in the flying Thunderhawks. Depicted dodging incoming fire from a Reaver Titan, these titanic vehicles are mounted seamlessly to the display in such a way that they look like they’re really flying. As well as large scale details, even smaller features like the vats of toxic ooze at the front of the board add a distinct sense of realism and place to the display..

While the Death on Khendrel IV display is already pretty packed with detail, it’ll grow and change in the months ahead with Easter eggs and more for dedicated visitors to hunt for. We think it’s well worth checking out – you can see it in our Exhibition Hall at Warhammer World, alongside a range of other awesome dioramas from the worlds of Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Age of Sigmar and the Horus Heresy.

This new diorama is truly amazing! The flying Thunderhawk dodging shots from the Reaver Titan is something we’ve never seen before, but it was executed perfectly. This wasn’t an easy task in the least, and it’s taken a while to get here. Let’s see some of the teasers and work in progress pics Warhammer World put out prior to its completion.

June 12th to 16th inclusive we’re closing Exhibition Area 2 – The Imperium – to install a new diorama, and we sneaked into the Warhammer World Studio to see how the diorama work is going.

The team took the work in progress diorama board to Warhammer Fest and, following some extra work, last week it looked like the picture on the right.

Since then, there are more buildings in place, more details added, texturing in place, and paint going on. The miniatures are almost all done, ready and waiting to be fixed in place once the scenery is complete, barring the final few which will be added once the board is in place in the Exhibition.

The Warhammer World Studio team put together some awe inspiring displays, and this one is no different. Never thought we’d see the day where a Thunderhawk looked small on something, but that day has come.

What do you think about the new Death on Khendrel IV display? Are you going to Warhammer World any time soon? We’d love to hear what you guys have to say about the new diorama. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
