Games Workshop has been doing everything they can to make 40k enjoyable for everyone, and now they’ll be focusing more on the females of the universe.
The female gaming population is definitely on the rise, and it seems that more women are getting more into both the painting and playing of Warhammer 40,000. Games Workshop has said multiple times they’re trying to make this game enjoyable for everyone, and it looks like they’re still hard at work on it.
There was a recent Facebook post that gave us a little more insight on their plans for females in the game, as well as the ladies that play the game.
Games Workshop wanted Warhammer 40,000 to be enjoyable for everyone, so they made 8th edition, and we’ve definitely seen an increase of players in our local communities. It’s apparent for veteran players that there has been a slow rise in the focus of female models, and it seems it’s all a part of GW’s big plan. The rise of a need for female representation has increased significantly lately, especially over the last year.
This isn’t the first time Games Workshop has talked about making the game more enjoyable, and appealing, to the female gamers out there. Last month we got a look at some rumored highlights from the GW Annual General Meeting and this was brought up there as well.
Bringing Woman Gamers In
2.) They want to bring more women into the hobby, but don’t want to alienate the existing playerbase while doing so. It is something they’re aware of (but no details as yet).
Alienation? The only part of the playerbase that would feel alienated by having more women at the gaming table and female models on the tabletop are those you would not want to game with in the first place. You could also make the cast that hygiene standards would improve as well…..
This is a necessary move from GW to make since women are increasingly becoming a market force in gaming. Female gamers since have matched the number male gamers in the video gaming community alone.
Sales for GW could potentially skyrocket if the number of female tabletop players increased and found a comfortable home in Warhammer hobby or even the war-gaming hobby in general.
Of course, how can we forget that having more female models would be great. Plastic Sisters of Battle anyone? Female Mechanicus? More female Imperial Guard regiment options? All this is possible but we will have to wait and see what GW moves forward with in that regard.
