Forge World Stealth Updated New Legends 40k Rules!

RIP-forge-world forge-world-compendiumThe Forge World Legends 40k Rules arrived with some errors, and GW just stealth updated the PDF with changes. Let’s take a look!

With the landing of the Legends pdf, GW was seemingly put on blast as it contained a ton of errors. This most likely was a case of needing an editor to just look over the rules before it went out. Luckily some of the errors have been fixed, but many still remain, let’s go over some of them and what we knew from yesterday in case you missed it.

Yesterday, Warhammer Community, put out a post with every remaining Forge World unit getting a data sheet. By the looks of it, about 130 units are hitting Legends’ status. If you haven’t been paying attention, going to Legends is not a good thing, longevity-wise but at least they are giving us both points and power levels for all the units that we can use.

If you’ve been waiting to see how some of your favorite units faired, even though they are fading away, you can download all the rules here! If you’re looking for the rules of units actually in the book, check out our post on it here.

Final Hurrah: Forge World Legends 40k Rules Revealed!

Legends ContentsWelp… That’s a lot of units being moved the dumpster of sorts. While you’ll still be able to play with them, as the edition moves forward, these will never be revisited. Kind of sad as some really amazing units are in there! Especially since some of these were/are available not very long ago. Space Marines, Astra Militarium, and Tau took it really hard. While the entirety of the Renegades and Heretics got removed. Here’s what they have to say about it:

They’re legal for matched play, narrative play, and open play, but as they will no longer be receiving points updates in the future, you won’t be able to use them in most competitive events.

All Good Things Come to an End

Chaplain DreadnoughtGoodbye Chaplain Dreadnaught, who at one time was a must-have for tournament players. You’ll be missed… sort of.

Also, people have been really upset by what Death Korps of Krieg units didn’t make the cut. Looks like you’ll just have to field giant units of riders, and normal troopers from now on!

Forge World Stealth Updated New Legends 40k Rules!

Once everyone had a minute to check out the pdf, there were some pretty egregious and obvious errors. Once GW got a whiff of the feedback, they rolled out a ghost update fixing many of the simple errors, but no all of them. When we say ghost update, we mean specifically that GW usually show update history at the top of documents, but here they simply deleted/replaced the information and didn’t do that.

They actually changed the whole document with a different download link:

Let’s check out some of the errors still in the book that we noticed:

samus errorsThe first of two big errors still in the is for the Daemon Samus. For one it has Balistic skill and absolutely no shooting profile, which is strange enough. However, it also has an incorrect wargear option:

This model’s Iron Claw can be replaced with 1 warpsword

Unfortunately, Samus doesn’t have an iron claw to replace!

nurgle plague hulk errorsSimilarly to Samus, the Plague Hulk has Balistic skill and absolutely no shooting profile, seems like GW copypasta strikes again.

This model’s Iron Claw can be replaced with 1 warpsword

Once again, Plague Hulks don’t have an iron claw to replace, but Soul Grinders do… 1, 2, 3 copypastas in a row, ah, ah, ah!

gorgon errorsThere was a clear needed update though, in the original document before they rolled out the current ghost updated version. The Gorgon in the original document couldn’t transport units! That seems strange considering that’s a pretty big part of the kit, but luckily it can transport again.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that the Gorgon was just re-released as a kit after nearly a 10-year absence from Forge World just to get SQUATTED into oblivion again.

Mad props to this comment we saw yesterday that I think sums up the situation perfectly.

chaos legion keyword changes sneak peakThere was a cool rule in the book as well. They put in a rule for Death Guard and Thousand Sons to take generic Chaos stuff. This is neat because the 9th edition updates to these factions haven’t come out yet, meaning they can’t do that in tournament play. This update only applies to Legends, so they still cant in tournament play.

This does however give us a hint on how they are thinking of implementing this update to DG and TS in the future with regards to the legal Forge World rules.

Did your favorite Forge World Minis get moved to Legend? What are you the saddest to see go? Did you notice any errors still in or before the ghost update?
