Wow, Games Workshop may have just dream crushed Ynnari players out there with the new rules updates in May White Dwarf’s Index Xenos!
Warhammer Community recently confirmed the Ynnari Index that’ll be making its way into the player’s hands via May White Dwarf. Inside the issue will be new 17 Ynnari Stratagems, and six new Warlord Traits, Relics of Ynnead, and psychic powers respectively.
However an image of the first rules for the Index was spotted on GW’s site, and it is not looking good for the Soulburst Ability right now!
17 Stratagems, Relics, Warlord Traits, Psychic Powers & More In WD
Of course, no Index would be complete without shiny new rules, so you’ll also be treated to new datasheets for the three aforementioned characters and 17 powerful Stratagems, as well as 6 each of the following: Warlord Traits, Relics of Ynnead, Tactical Objectives and psychic powers from the Revenant discipline.
With a ton of stratagems on the way along with warlord traits, psychic powers, and relics, Ynnari were shaping up to become even more powerful. But with that said, will Soulburst get nerfed or just reworked? Could there be new units lurking in the pages? This is all a grey area right now.
At face value, this news is great for any potentially new Ynnari players as now they will be able to access the rules after GW declared the Index books from 2017 dead!

Index Xenos Rules Image, Enhanced
Taken out of context with no additional rules input from the new Strats, traits, etc. The Strength From Death Ability above seems to indicate the fix is in for Soulburst:

Allies of the Reborn
Beast, Sucubi and Scourge units can be included in a Ynnari detachment without preventing other units in that detachment from gaining the Strength from Death ability. Note however that these units never themselves gain the strength from death ability.
Reclaim the galaxy.
<Obsec>
Strength from Death As soon as any unit is destroyed, all units from your army with this ability benefit from Soulburst actions until the end of the turn. While a unit is benefiting from Soulburst actions it always fights first in the fight phases, even if it didn’t charge. If a model that is benefiting from Soulburst actions made a charge move this turn or already had an ability that allows it to always fight first in the fight phase, then while it is benefiting from soulburst actions you also add 1 to hit rolls for attacks made with melee weapons by that model. If the enemy has units that made a charge move this turn, or has abilities that allow them to always fight first in the fight phase, then alternate choosing units to fight with starting with the player whose turn is taking place.
Also, you can include Yvrane, Visarch or Ycarne to without breaking a Craftworlds/harlequin/drukhari detachment or making it Ynnari. They can join just like Astra Militarum is allowed to take priests or something.
So from a first look perspective, taken completely out of context, now Soulburst has been changed to:
All units in your army get to fight first after an enemy unit dies. If they charged or already had fight first, they get +1 to hit in the fight phase.
Which if you have ever been a victim of or a witness to a Ynnari beatdown, then you know how huge this may be. However, they could still behave as their traditional selves via strats, just at the cost of CP’s, or some other mechanic as well.
Will Ynnari have enough to be a contender now in 8th Edition if Soulburst stands as above? Let us know what you think in the comments of our Facebook Hobby Group.
