Army Box Is A Strong Starting Point

Thinking of starting a 40k Death Korps of Krieg army? The upcoming launch box is like a grim gift from the Emperor himself—packed with all the essentials to kickstart your force; it’s both practical and downright beautiful. Here’s what’s inside:

  • 10- Death Riders of Krieg
  • Lord Marshal Varnan Dreir
  • 5- Combat Engineers
  • 1- Artillery Team
  • Alternative Art Cover Astra Miltarium Codex & Datacards

Death Riders of Krieg

Death RidersFirst, we have Death Riders, now in plastic for the very first time. Yes, you heard that right—no more finicky resin horses! These revamped models bring brutal claws, sleek lascarbines, and enough grim determination to send chills down your opponent’s spine. Whether you’re charging into battle or just admiring them on your shelf, these riders scream Krieg.

Artillery Team

Artillery TeamNext up is the artillery team, a centerpiece that doubles as a tactical powerhouse and a statement piece. These aren’t just models; they’re monuments to the big-gun philosophy of the Astra Militarum. Whether you kit them out with siege cannons, rocket launchers, or heavy mortars, they’re sure to rain destruction on anything unlucky enough to face them.

Combat Engineers

For up-close chaos, the box includes combat engineers. These aren’t your typical grunts—these are the rough-and-tumble types who storm trenches, set mines, and look incredibly stylish while doing it. Flamers? Check. Shotguns? Check. The ability to infiltrate and disrupt enemy plans?

Absolutely. They’re a must-have for anyone who enjoys playing aggressively or just loves the idea of clearing enemy lines with a smile (hidden behind a gas mask, of course). Plus, who doesn’t love an augur-propelled remote mine?

Lord Marshall Varnan Drier

Lord Marshall Varnan DrierAnd we can’t forget Lord Marshall Varnan Drier himself. This guy is the very definition of leading from the front, riding into battle on his steed like a boss. With his Sabre of Sacrifice and the ability to cheat death, he’s the kind of hero who’ll make your opponent think twice about underestimating Krieg.

Finally, the box comes with a codex featuring stunning Death Korps artwork. It’s not just a rulebook—it’s a love letter to Krieg fans, packed with lore, detachments, and enough strategic variety to keep your games fresh. Plus, it looks fantastic on your hobby desk.

The New Roster: Highlights of the Krieg Releases

death korps of kriegThe latest additions to the DKoK aren’t just about looks—they bring new strategic depth to the tabletop. Let’s break it down:

Death Riders: Now With More Bite (Literally)

death korps of krieg Death RidersThe Death Riders are back, and this time, they’re more terrifying than ever. Their steeds have traded hooves for razor-sharp claws, giving them a brutal edge in combat. Each rider comes equipped with lascarbines, power sabres, and the ability to reposition when enemies get too close. That’s right—they’re not just charging forward blindly; they’re here to outmaneuver and outlast.

Artillery Teams: Bigger, Bolder, Brutal

Artillery TeamKrieg’s artillery game has always been strong, and the new models take it to another level. Mounted on 130mm bases, these massive pieces come with four weapon options:

  • Heavy Mortars (we all know the Guard loves mortars)
  • Quad Launchers (perfect for clearing out infantry)
  • Siege Cannons with Damage 3 shots
  • Multiple Rocket Launchers (great against infantry with an anti-infantry 3+ ability)

Artillery TeamThese guns aren’t just about firepower—they’re about statement-making. Deploying one of these is like announcing to your opponent that the shelling has just begun.

Combat Engineers: Clearing the Way

Combat EngineersThe combat engineers are designed to punch through enemy lines with grim efficiency. Armed with flamers, shotguns, and the ability to infiltrate, these squads are all about disruption and destruction. They also come with a remote-controlled mine for extra chaos, and the grenade stratagem can be used for free! If you’re looking for units to push forward into the fray and sow mayhem, these engineers have you covered.

Lord Marshall Varnan Drier: Leading from the Saddle

Lord Marshall Varnan DrierThe new Lord Marshall Varnan Drier brings both style and substance to Krieg’s leadership. Riding into battle on a steed, he boasts the Sabre of Sacrifice, a weapon that grants devastating wounds on the charge to his Death Riders. Even death isn’t the end for Drier—he has a knack for returning to the fight, proving that Krieg’s resolve is as unyielding as ever.

Astra Militarum Codex: Five Detachments to Rule Them All

Astra Militarum Codex Death Korps of Krieg Army SetThe new codex will give players plenty of ways to customize their Krieg (and regular Astra Militarum forces as well) forces. The five detachments include:

  • Combined Arms (sort of your standard army with close to current rules)
  • Siege Regiment (perfect for shooting into combat)
  • Hammer of the Emperor (tank-heavy mayhem)
  • Recon Element (seems to give a lot of rules for infiltrating, scouts, and stealth)
  • Mechanized Assault (Focused on your troops being carried in tanks and jumping out)

Additionally, Leman Russ tank commanders and Rogal Dorn tank commanders are now separate units, each with unique rules, offering more flexibility in building your lists.

Future Releases: What’s Next for DKoK?

Combat EngineersKreig Command Squad- After the initial wave featuring the Death Korps of Krieg Army Set, there’s plenty more in store. A new command squad will feature a Commissar, a Commissar Cadet, and an alchemist granting Feel No Pain (FNP) to nearby troops. They honestly look amazing, and let’s hope they drop when the codex comes out and not too long after.

Kreig Heavy Weapons Squad

Combat EngineersAlso, heavy weapon teams will make a return with Krieg-specific upgrades like heavy flamers, lascannons, and more. They mentioned the flamer will have an 18″ range, Strength 5, -1AP, and Damage 2! Beware of charging into them.

Kreig Infantry Squad

The Death Korps Infantry Squad may just be a variant of the Kill Team release, as this army pic (below) seems to indicate
