The last of the Deathwatch are here, as we slide into 40k skirmish season with next week’s eagerly anticipated Kill Team core set.

But don’t sleep on the new releases this week as allocations are high at retailers around the world, as price savvy hobbyists are snapping up these new miniatures.Let’s take a look at some pricing comparisons for the new sets:

So there are some clear winners and losers there for sure, but overall some great savings to be had on the new release.

Speaking of new releases, did you notice how Games Workshop just took what was basically six new products (Watch Master, Corvus, Kill Team, Upgrade Sprue, Artemis, and the Codex itself) and turned it into a 3 week release of nearly 20 new products, most of which were re-packages?

Corvus Blackstar

I tell you what, even though the new flyer is slightly smaller than the Stormraven itself (and about $20 cheaper) don’t let that fool you – it’s a pretty neat kit.

Sure this two sprue kit (same as the Stormtalon) doesn’t have a clear canopy or as many moving parts as it’s bigger brother, it does have some other nifty features!

Corvus Blackstar unboxing review

First Look Features:

  • The Blackstar’s flight stem can be adjusted to be completely horizontal, or at a 45 degree angle for strafing runs!
  • It’s back chaff launchers also moves along with the wingtip VTOL thrusters.
  • There is no interior detail present, although the back hatch can be opened.
  • The front =I= hatches are part of a bigger panel assembly and not removable or able to be opened.
  • It also has several flight flaps that can be positioned up or down, as well as optional top mounted accessories.

Corvus Blackstar unboxing review

Overall I think this kit is a great step in the right direction overall for the hobby, as it seems to be just the right amount of model for just the right price – something I literally have never said before about a GW product.

Deathwatch Chaplain $25

99070109004_DeathwatchChaplain05

Roaring praise to the Emperor, a Chaplain of the Deathwatch excels in inspiring the already-elite Space Marines around him to ever-greater feats of heroism. Few have greater faith in the Emperor and Mankind’s inalienable right to rule the stars than the Deathwatch, and a Kill Team cannot fail to be caught up in the ecstatic fervour and sheer conviction of a Chaplain’s bellowed rhetoric. His crozius arcanum lashes out to crush xenos skulls in displays of blazing vengeance, deflecting counter-attacks and splitting armour as if it were tin. Nobody watching a Deathwatch Chaplain in action can deny that the power of the Imperium is very real, and utterly deadly.

99120109001_DeathwatchKillTeam08

Organised into small, elite companies plucked from Space Marine Chapters that have pledged a tithe of their strength in the struggle against the alien, the Deathwatch counts only heroes amongst its ranks. Each member has been hailed as an expert in his field even before his training as a Deathwatch operator has begun. His armour painted the blackest of hues, his Chapter icon intact upon his pauldron as a mark of respect to the Chapter that made him, the Deathwatch Space Marine and his highly-specialised Kill Team descend to the edge of destruction, there to repel whatever dire threat they face.

Deathwatch Vanguard Veterans $45

99120109006_DeathwatchVanguard07

Specialising in pinpoint assaults – invaluable to the extreme threats the Deathwatch face – Vanguard Veterans hurtle from the skies with jet turbines screaming. Some choose to leap across the battlefield in great bounds, closing in on the foe in seconds, others prefer to strike directly from the bay of an overhead Corvus Blackstar, penetrating the heart of an enemy force instantly. Once there, they use their weapons – each Vanguard Veteran has his preference, and is utterly deadly with his choice – to rend and destroy with an almost surreal efficiency.

Deathwatch Terminators $50

99120109008_DeathwatchTerminators08

The warriors of the Deathwatch who fight encased in Terminator armour are representations of the Imperium’s might like no other. Their standard weaponry alone is impressive – wielding a storm bolter capable of mowing down a brood of Tyranids, and wearing a power fist that can tear apart an Eldar dreadnought – but most of these Terminators choose rather more esoteric loadouts, befitting the task at hand. Some select missile launchers with which to engage the enemy from a distance, others choose lightning claws with which to get up close and personal. Whatever the threat, the Deathwatch can match it, and the Deathwatch Terminators will ensure that the alien menace is struck down wherever it may dare to rise.

Deathwatch Venerable Dreadnought $50

99120109005_DeathwatchVenerableDreadnought06

Always on the hunt for the largest and strongest xenos to eliminate, the Venerable Dreadnoughts of the Deathwatch are highly respected as killing machines by their Watch Masters. Filled with ancient wisdom and ancient hatred, they are often consulted before a Kill Team is sent into battle, that their knowledge may optimise the fight ahead. Once the battle commences, the Venerable Dreadnought is a living icon of the Chapter who sent them, the spearhead of the assault. Any alien in their path can expect a swift demise.
