This week Kenny from Next Level Painting is back to help nail down quick wet blending on a base or miniatures with his “lazy blending” method!
Kenny usually does full-scale painting tutorials, but in order to paint well, you also need to practice! This week he’s helping us by adding a new tool to our arsenal. Wet-blending can be hard and is certainly intimidating, but Kenny shows us how to do it quickly and easily on any of our minis.
Lazy Wet Blending Method for Miniatures & Bases
For the first half of the base, he uses Secret Weapon Tire Black and Secret Weapon Knight Blue.
After you get the base coats done you can move onto the areas you want to wet blend. Start with the darker color first and lay down quite a bit of it and make sure it’s sufficiently wet.
Next, you can come in with a bit of water and the brighter color and add it to the edge of the darker area. Now the water will do the work for you and slowly begin to create a wet blend transfer for you. Also, feather it in with mostly water to get it in there. After it dries do it once more with a highlight.
Next, to tackle a rust wet-blend you’ll need two reds, Kenny uses Secret Weapon Neo Burnt Red and Secret Weapon Odessa Red.
Take the Odessa Red and apply it all over the metal watered down. Then add some of the Tire Black from before and swirl it around. Let it dry before moving on.
Then come back with the Neo Burnt Red and highlight/glaze it. Once that is dry, you can drybrush the base with the Knight Blue. After that, feel free to wash it and add any base materials you like! You should also go back over and highlight the rusted area with Secret Weapon Parchment. However, that’s optional. The base is now blended and looks great!
