RUMORS: New Death Guard 40k Codex Rules & Model Leaks

rumors death guard art cover from 8th edition hor walNew Death Guard 40k rules rumors are here after the leaked Lord of Poxes model heralded in big codex and battleforce reveals at Adepticon.

Updated April 22nd, 2025, by Rob Baer with new codex rumors and big reveals from Adepticon 2025 and the new Lord of Poxes datasheet.

If you thought the Plaguefather’s minions couldn’t surprise you anymore, think again. After the big AdeptiCon reveals, we know they are grabbing a codex, and it looks like there are plenty of leaks for the book making the rounds now as well!

This is all on top of the leaked Death Guard Lord of poxes and a new Battleforce that was confirmed already. So, let’s talk about the latest leaks and a whole lot of rumors.

Lord of Poxes Confrimed Datasheet:

Lord of Poxes

Death Guard players, it’s time to crack a rotten smile. The Lord of Poxes just got meaner, moldier, and miles more frustrating—for your opponents. Thanks to one of Mortarion’s funky Mantles of Corruption, this bloated lad now carries a personal cloud of misery with an extended 3” Contagion range.

And here’s the kicker: unless someone’s brave (or foolish) enough to step within 18”, they can’t even shoot him or the unit he’s with. That means your Plague Marines now have a smelly guardian angel keeping them safe from long-range bullying.

Now, if someone does wander too close? Six attacks at Strength 8, AP -2, and 2 Damage come crashing in with Lethal Hits and Devastating Wounds.

Oh, and did we mention he’s rocking Toughness 6? That pretty much confirms that our hulking Plague Marines will also match that stat.

Death Guard 40k Codex Rules Leaks:

Death Guard ArtWord on the street (and by street, we mean Discord and Reddit) is that the new Death Guard codex might be rolling in with some serious shifts—and a few curveballs. A handful of influencers already have their grubby plague-covered hands on it, so while it’s all technically unconfirmed, it’s starting to smell a lot like Nurgle’s truth stew.

So what may be changing?

  • Mortarion’s Glow Up. Dropping his Modifier Aura. Points going up, kill count going way up. We’re talking 10-12 Marines deleted in a turn. He’s still a monster, just not the auto-include he used to be.
  • Cultists, Chaos Terminator Lords, and Termi Sorcerers are on the chopping block. Two out of three have straight-up vanished from the webstore. GW’s cleaning house.
  • Heavy Bloat Drone is back. Quietly reappeared on the Death Guard page — keep an eye on that. Could be staging a comeback.
  • Deathshroud Termies just became terrifying. Deep strike within 6” and go for the charge? Yes please. Oh, and they’re T7 now.
  • Blightlords are hitting harder. 2 damage melee, better shooting if they’re in Contagion range, and yep — T7 too.
  • Plague Marines get a toughness bump to T6. Plus some mysterious new ability. No details yet, but it sounds like they’ll finally feel as gross and grindy as they look.
  • Iconbearer might be channeling Helbrute vibes. Some kind of support buff incoming? Could be a new linchpin model.
  • All Detachments are getting real love. None of this “one good build” nonsense. Every Detachment is gonna have teeth.
  • Overall army feel? More elite, Custodes-style. Less poxwalker spam, more durable, dangerous core units that hit like a truck and keep on walking.

Rules Leak Breakdown:

The biggest red flag in the pile: the army’s taking a more elite direction, similar to how Custodes roll. That means fewer bodies, more punch. Expect smaller units with higher durability and damage output. Less horde, more wrecking crew.

Now for the spicy bits.

  • Cultists, Terminator Lords, and Termi Sorcerers? Looks like they’re getting kicked out of the garden. Mortarion probably had a meeting and decided they’re not Gross Enough.
  • Speaking of Mortarion, the ignore modifiers’ aura might be going away. Not too shocking, considering the back-and-forth narrative flex with Fulgrim and how Games Workshop has been trimming down global auras. However, this one we’re not as sure about, as GW might have just made a slip-up when talking about who Fulgrim can beat in combat.
  • Points across the board are expected to go up. Makes sense if the army’s shifting into a bulkier, more elite mode. The kicker? Mortarion might still be able to delete 10–12 Marines a turn. Strong, but not a “must-take” anymore.

99120102073_DeathshroudBodyguard01Now let’s talk terminators—because they’re about to hit the table hard.

  • Deathshroud Terminators: Rumor says they can drop in within 6 inches and charge. And they’re coming in at T7. Good luck shifting them off an objective.
  • Blightlords aren’t slouching either. Two-damage melee, extra AP and Strength when shooting within Contagion range, and yep—T7. Blightlords with more teeth? Yes, please.

death guard hor walPlague Marines are also getting a tweak. They’re rumored to jump up to T6, and there’s a new ability in the works—no concrete details yet, but it’s likely tied into durability or contagion mechanics. Possibly both. Either way, they’re sticking around, just tougher and meaner.

And don’t sleep on the Iconbearer—they might snag an ability echoing the Helbrute’s current support aura. It could be a fun way to keep the army cohesive without relying on overlapping buffs.

One last weird twist: The Heavy Bloat Drone is back on the Warhammer webstore’s Death Guard section, while Chaos Terminator Lords and Cultists are MIA. The Terminator Sorcerer’s still hanging around though, which adds another layer of “huh?” to the pile.

What does all this mean? Sings points to a Death Guard meta that hits harder, shrugs off more hits, and leaves the chaff behind. If you like running elite, plague-soaked wrecking balls across the board, this might be your codex.

Just don’t glue too many Cultists anytime soon.

GW Confirms the Lord of Poxes

Lord of PoxesThe rumors were true—Death Guard is getting some love in the 10th Edition with a new model and codex! The new Lord of Poxes looks like it’s bringing some serious “healing” vibes to the tabletop. Unveiled at LVO 2025, this model looks fantastic and will complete the trifecta of Lord models for the faction. Nurgle’s blessings keep on coming…

What’s Brewing in the Chaos Cauldron?

This is the new Lord of Poxes, finally stepping out of the lore and onto the tabletop! Heralding a fresh codex update is brewing for Nurgle’s chosen. Let’s wade through the murky details and piece together what’s next for the Death Guard.

Looks like the Warhammer 40k community has another reason to whip out the magnifying glasses and scrutinize sprue photos. Earlier in the year, a leaked Death Guard model surfaced, stirring up the Nurgle-loving masses.

A Case of the Misplaced Sprue

Death Guard Leaked sprueOnce again, someone’s hobby box got an unintentional upgrade. The leaked sprue contains parts for a never-before-released Death Guard character. This isn’t just another Plague Marine or Blightlord Terminator.

It’s a commanding presence with the trappings of authority: a massive sword, a plasma pistol complete with a cool hose connection that is tactical rock-ish, and a backpack that looks ready to spew some serious pestilence.

Death Guard Leaked sprueIf you’re thinking “Chaos Lord vibes,” you’re not alone. For ages, Death Guard players have lamented the absence of a proper Chaos Lord that truly embodies their faction’s grim aesthetic. However, it turned out to be something much more pox-ridden.

Seven Shades of Chaos Lords

Death Guard Leaked lord modelFor those keeping track, the Death Guard lore mentions seven distinct flavors of Chaos Lords. These include Lords of Contagion, Virulence, Poxes, Parasitism, Flux, Withering, and one mysterious category we haven’t seen fleshed out yet. So far, only two (and with this a third) have made the jump from lore to tabletop: the Lord of Contagion and the Lord of Virulence.

This new model fills the gap as a Lord of Poxes. The design leans heavily into what you’d expect from a champion of rot and disease. The hose-linked plasma pistol and towering stature suggest this is no mere grunt but someone wielding considerable influence among the Plaguefather’s forces.

Closing Thoughts

Death Guard ArtAlright, rot-cadets, here’s the moldy cherry on top:

The Lord of Poxes looks set to be a centerpiece both visually and tactically—finally giving us that proper chaos-warped commander we’ve been waiting for. And the Death Guard may be shedding their swarmy past for a tighter, tougher, meaner game plan. Lean into elite units, prep for some spicy point hikes, and maybe give your Cultists a break while the dust (and pus) settles.
