New 40k Grand Tournament Mission & Secondaries Changes

By Travis Pasch | June 3rd, 2021 | Categories: Warhammer 40k, Warhammer 40k Rumors

Codex-BookThere are a few changes to set up and secondaries that are coming to the new 2021 40k Grand Tournament Mission Pack!

We recently spotted how to set up your armies on Imgur. The community was a little upset that not much was changing in terms of missions, but there is one new small thing to take a look at. Still, it does seem strange they didn’t go for some bigger changes now that a bunch of new books are out.

Anyway, enough griping. Let’s jump into what’s changing!

New 40k Grand Tournament Mission Changes

grand tournament pack changesThe change gives your Super-heavy Auxiliary Detachments an additional 2 command points. Not too many people run these, but those of you who do will be grabbing some more command points before the battle begins.  Also, note this bonus is not valid for “soup” style lists.

Seems like maybe GW wants to push the game back into big minis with a few of the recent changes, so this just further cements that perhaps.

The Same Missions

MissionsNot a single change here, which is just disappointing. At least the secondaries are getting revamped.

40k Chapter Approved Secondary Objectives Rules

Secondary ObjectivesThere are a few good options here for people who just want to kill as many enemy minis as possible, with Grind Them Down and No Prisoners. To The Last is interesting, if you have a few units you think won’t die. But it feels really hard to achieve other than for some armies like DG or Custodes because they have to survive the whole battle.

That also means you will probably play them less aggressively. The other objectives for controlling the board are always a good choice if you can actually achieve them.

Secondary Objectives 4Deploy Teleport Homer is a big change and seems like it will be somewhat hard to score. Because you’ll have to run up to your opponent’s deployment zone and then have them just sit there.

If you have some tough bikers or infantry though, and they can sit there for a couple of turns, you can score a lot of points. Even if they sit there for two turns in the deployment zone, you get 8 points- winning!

Secondary Objectives 3Abhor the Witch and Bring it Down will still be taken a lot. Against armies with tanks or Psykers, this is just so easy to score- even if your opponent has three vehicles with 11+ wounds you can score 6 VP for just killing something you would want anyways.

What do you think about the new mission update and changes to secondaries? What’s your favorite new 40k chapter approved 2021 secondary objective?
