New Adeptus Mechanicus Weapon Profiles & 40k Rules

engine war ad mech wal horNew previews for the upcoming 40k codex are starting as GW revealed four new Adeptus Mechanicus Weapon Profiles rules.

Warhammer Community unveiled some of what we can expect from the new book in terms of weapons. They are definitely all grabbing some upgrades, mainly in terms of damage and AP, with the Twin Cognis Lascannon really coming out as a winner.

They look to be getting a very similar release to Drukhari with one, maybe two, new mini releases and just a much better book overall. The faction has had rules spread across many mediums, so if nothing else, this will be a nice update to have! But enough of that, let’s first look at the new mini and book on the way, then we’ll hop into the rules!

New Adeptus Mechanicus Weapon Profiles Revealed!

Skitarii codexThey haven’t just been building a new commander, either. The entire range has been given the once-over by its Tech-Priest masters, and soon you can find the fruits of their labour in the freshly updated Codex: Adeptus Mechanicus.

New 40k Skitarii Marshal For Ad Mech Revealed

skittari 1

Skitari MarshalSpecialised in directing their troops from the front line and leaving the important plans up to their masters, the Skitarii Marshal makes an excellent lieutenant for the Machine God’s armies and will ensure their Rangers make the most of every shot.

A new character to buff troops might be one of many new tools to help push the faction into viability. Of course, if you like the lore or look of the faction that’s reason enough to play them.

Galvanic Weapons

New Adeptus Mechanicus weapon pofilesThe galvanic rifles and carbines carried by Skitarii may look like antique flintlock weapons from eras past, but this design choice masks some serious tech, which utilises electricity to burn targets alive from the inside out. At least they’ll die knowing they were killed by beautifully made guns.

Moving to Heavy 2 and just a flat -1 AP makes sense. While they won’t be quite as maneuverable, with their long-range and no want for combat, this is a decent change to us.

Arc Weapons

New Adeptus Mechanicus weapon pofiles 2The melee versions of arc weapons also get the new benefits against vehicles, giving your Kataphron Breachers a punch that will be sure to charge up your force. These aren’t the only close combat weapons to get a boost either. Transonic blades and transonic razors now scythe through armour with wild abandon, having gone to AP -3 for blades and AP -2 for razors. Your Sicarian Ruststalkers are now a major threat to even the most well-protected foes, not to mention that they’re now every bit as awesome in-game as the models are to look at.

While they don’t give the full profiles for the cc weapons, they do mention a buff to AP, which they really needed. Looks like they might actually be able to kill some Marines in CC now. On top of that, the Arc Rifle got way better. With D3 Damage all the time, and then turning into 3 Damage against vehicles and always wounding on a 4+, that’s a really decent buff. Not to mention the 6″ extra of range!

Cognis Weapons

Cognis weaponsBasically, every Cognis Weapon is grabbing a buff. With each gaining more shots and moving to assault, it will really increase their efficiency. With 6 Assault shots and D2, the Autocannon can really mow through some 2W infantry! While these three got buffs, the Lascannon really comes out as the winner.

Twin Cognis LascannonMaking these assault means you can run around and shoot them without penalty, not to mention the D3+3 damage! If you have three or four of these, you’ll basically be guaranteeing to punch through some serious armor every turn. If they keep a stratagem to increase the hit roll, they’ll be hitting on 2’s, and wounding the majority of vehicles on 3’s, not too bad!  They also mention some rules for the Torsion Cannons:

The torsion cannon that Kataphron Breachers can carry in place of their heavy arc rifles has had a similar upgrade, now doing D3+3 damage – and its range has doubled to a mighty 48”

Doubling the range is kind of a crazy upgrade.
