Veterans of the Long War Battleforce Contents Review

So, you’re thinking about grabbing the Veterans Battleforce, huh?

Chaos Terminator space marines 2019 newObviously, there is only one new miniature inside, but GW really pumped up the value in this box. It focuses heavily on the Terminator side of things, but there are plenty of other options as well. This is a great box for anyone looking to start a CSM army, as it has a great mix of units. However, if you’re a more veteran player, you probably have a lot of the models already, but it could be a good way to get a lot in one buy.

Is This Worth It?

Of course! If you need the miniatures inside, this actually has some great value. While it only has one new miniature, it can be a great place to start a new army or buff up your existing one. The value is more on par with other battleforce offerings like the Custodes Auric Champions and not the $140 that the Dread Talons or Ork Stompa Boyz have.

How Many Points is the Veterans of the Long War Battleforce Box?

So, you’re wondering how many points the VotLW box racks up, eh? Well, in Warhammer 40k 10th edition, this box hits with about 850 points (the Terminators make up nearly 400 of the points). But, as you know, the tides of the Grimdark universe are ever-shifting, and with the latest points updates, that number could quickly fluctuate.

One minute, you’re ready to destroy the Imperium and the next, you’re recalculating your list because the points gods have decided to have some fun.

Veterans of the Long War Contents & Description

The Veterans of the Long War battleforce serves as the perfect foundation for a Chaos Space Marines army. The new Chaos Lord on foot leads a hand-picked bodyguard of five Chosen. The box also includes 10 Legionaries, 10 Chaos Terminators, and five Possessed.

New Chaos Lordchaos lord weapon options

The kit offers a variety of weapon options, such as a chainaxe, an accursed maul, or a daemon hammer in the right hand and a plasma pistol or power fist in the left. Additionally, there is a choice of a horned helmet or a bare head, both of which are intimidating.

Terminators

chaos terminators

Chaos Terminators are a formidable and highly trained group of elite soldiers who are heavily armored and equipped with an impressive arsenal of weaponry. They are adept at wading through enemy fire to take out their opponents and are a crucial component of any warband.

Due to their impressive combat skills and weaponry, they can take out entire squads and vehicles. Their expertise on the battlefield makes them valuable assets to their masters’ warbands, and they are often relied upon to lead the charge during battles.

Chosen

Eldar vs Chaos Space Marines Eldritch Omens Battle Box Set chosenThe Chosen are known for their unwavering determination, bravery, and exceptional combat skills. They have access to the most potent weapons of their warband, which they have either earned through merit or by seizing them from their enemies.

Traditionally, Chosen undertake the most risky and heroic missions and are an essential part of the army. They are respected for their unwavering loyalty towards their cause and for their ability to inspire others to do the same.

Legionaries

Chaos Space Marine LegionariesIt’s important to recognize that even the Space Marines, with all their training and discipline, can be swayed by the allure of Chaos. Whether they were corrupted during the Horus Heresy or, more recently, these formidable warriors combine their innate genetic abilities with dark blessings and malevolent sorcery. After many battles, they have become fearless, superhuman fighters.

Possessed

Chaos Space Marines PossessedThe Possessed are ferocious and savage Astartes warriors who have fused with the daemons of the Chaos Gods in a blasphemous union. Their bodies have been warped and mutated by their parasitic connection to the warp, causing their armored forms to flow like wax.

They are almost invincible and can easily shrug off lethal blows as they unleash their talons, snapping maws and vestigial wings to wreak havoc and unleash an unholy orgy of bloodshed.

What to Buy Next?

Chaos cultistsAt this point, you have a good base of CSM, but you really need some vehicles, dreads, and maybe some Cultists to sit on objectives! Terminators are super tough but a bit slow, so if you want to take it old school, you can pick up a Land Raider and smash it headfirst into the enemy. After that, you can start grabbing what you think is cool, and it probably wouldn’t hurt to get some more Legionaries and Chosen.

So, if you’re looking for a new army to add to your collection or just want to bolster your existing Chaos Space Marines, be sure to check out the Veterans of the Long War Battleforce!
