With the launch of the 10th Edition codexes, players can expect big changes and additions to their armies. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the new Trajann and Ghazghkull rules, as well as the Orks and Adeptus Custodes detachments, giving you a glimpse into what you can expect from the upcoming 10th Edition codex releases.

Ghazghkull 10th Edition 40k Orks Rules

All of these rules we spotted in the preview announcement video from Games Workshop.

Ghazghkull Rules

Let’s start with the rules for the meanest Ork out there! Possibly the biggest change here is he finally gets a sweep attack! This means you can’t just swamp him with a ton of small models any longer. Now, he can sweep through 12 of them in a turn, which makes sense for an Ork of his power.

On top of that, Prophet of da Great Waaagh! Gives 5+ crits in Melee in the Battle Round if you call the Waaagh!

Trajann Valoris New Adeptus Custodes 10th Edition 40k Rules

Ghazghkull RulesJust looking at the card, Trajann seems to get weaker this time around. However, we haven’t seen the full codex, so we can’t say 100%. Here are the changes:

  • He loses Fights First. This is huge, as before, you couldn’t really charge him to take him out (however, he still gets a 2+ invulnerable save once, so when he is charged, he’ll still be hard to kill).
  • Now, his ignore modifiers rule has been clarified to only ignore BS, WS, and all hit rolls, and you don’t need to dig deep into the rules commentary to decipher what gets what.

Keep in mind that we don’t know points costs or all the faction/detachment rules yet, so we’re essentially looking at these rules in a vacuum without all the information to decide if any of these changes are “worth it” yet

Orks Codex 10th Edition 40k Detachements Preview

Ghazghkull RulesIt’s somewhat hard to read, but here are the detachments we can make out:

  • War Horde – we assume this is the sort of standard detachment where you focus on everything, with no benefits for certain types of units; it could be similar to the current detachment.
  • Da Big Hunt- this sounds like a Beast Snaggas detachment. They like to hunt, so we can’t see it being anything to different.
  • Green Tide- What does this sound like? Tons of Boyz!
  • Kult of Speed- You would think this would be a speed freaks-style detachment focusing on bikes, vehicles, and buggies.
  • Dread Mob- This also seems fairly obvious, and we think it will focus on all their walkers, especially since they have so many.
  • Bully Boyz- we assume this will focus on Nobz and elite models, perhaps even feature Ghaz too!

Well, the main thing missing here (other than some datasheets, which we’ll get to) is a shooty-style detachment. However, this looks decent overall for a spread of detachments.

Next up, here are some datasheets not present:

  • Badrukk
  • Zagstruk
  • Grotsnik
  • Mekboy Workshop
  • Banner Nob

While it is always disappointing to lose any named character, GW has been removing the ones that aren’t getting new models. However, is there a chance things like the Banner Nob just go to a unit now instead? Also, there is no Mek with the Kustom Force Field, but perhaps that’s just in the Mek datasheet as an option now?

Adeptus Custodes Codex Detachements Preview

Ghazghkull RulesConsidering they have so few units, it seems reasonable that they are only getting four detachments in 10th Edition.

  • Talon of the Emperor– we assume the standard detachment to take whatever units from the list and get generalized buffs.
  • Shield Host- Current Detachment should be about the same in the codex as index cards.
  • Null Maidens Vigil- Perhaps a Sisters of Silence-focused list!
  • Auric Champions- This would seem to be a detachment focused on the elite of the elite with bikes and terminators, especially considering this is the name of the Battleforce, and it includes those units.

Overall, these previews give a glimpse into what we can expect from the new Orks and Custodes codexes. While some changes may be disappointing, there are also exciting new additions and detachments to look forward to.

Seeing how players adapt and strategize with these new rules and options will be interesting.
