Say goodbye to Drop Pod door debates with this new Warhammer 40k Drop Pod kit that is arriving in pairs with fixed doors and cleaner rules.
If you’ve been playing Warhammer 40,000 long enough, you’ve probably dropped a few Space Marines from orbit. The iconic Space Marine Drop Pod has been a staple for years, both on the tabletop and in heated arguments over door footprints.
Now it’s back with a previously rumored, refreshed plastic kit that fixes the old fiddly bits and brings some welcome quality-of-life changes—without losing that orbital-insertion charm.
What’s New With Space Marine Drop Pod Kit
The updated Space Marine Drop Pod arrives as a twin pack, giving you two pods per box. That’s good news for players who want a reliable transport option for units that don’t naturally deep strike. The storm bolter and deathwind launcher—previously mounted like an OSHA violation waiting to happen—are gone. Instead, you get a sleeker silhouette and cleaner build experience.
The doors? Gloriously fixed in the open position. No more arguments about where your footprint starts or ends. The new model also includes modular impact debris that you can add if you’re into that battlefield-carnage aesthetic.
Easier Rules, Easier Assembly
A new datasheet will accompany the release and be available as a free download, clearly defining how and where to measure everything. No more guesswork. And if you’ve ever tried building one of the older kits, this new version’s simplified construction is a welcome change.
As of right now, there is no word on whether Dreadnoughts can hitch a ride in these yet, either.
Final Thoughts
Each pod holds a full squad, perfect for delivering Marines straight into the thick of the fight. Want to burn out a dug-in enemy gunline? Now you can do it with fewer glue-smeared regrets and more confidence in your measurements.
At the same time, this new model may be a pain to transport and deploy on the table. The new Pariah Nexus terrain can be tight, and this model has a massive footprint. Either way, it will be fascinating to see how this changes the Space Marines playstyle!
Interestingly enough, we have already seen this new kit in past rumors about the upcoming Space Marine Codex 2.0. I wonder what else will turn out to be true?
