It’s been a hot minute since Tyranids have gotten any real support and now GW has an opportunity to do something especially cool with Primaris Tyranids!
Everyone has made the joke about Primaris [insert unit here]. However, Tyranids are probably the best faction realistically to get “Primaris” treatment. Here’s why.
Story Advancement After Devastation of Baal
The last major word we heard about the Tyranids was after they almost ate the entire planet of Baal. The Blood Angels were nearly wiped out and their only saving grace was Rowboat Girlyman showing up with his Primaris force. Plus some Khorne Daemons cleansed the Tyranids in orbit around the planets.
With an entire tendril of a Tyranid swarm dedicated to eating Baal and its neighbors, there were some major conflicts. And it’s a far-fetched idea to say that there weren’t any of Robert, the G’s Primaris Marines that ended up in the gut of a space bug. We all know what happens to the Tyranids once they come across a new life form and grab its biomass… genetic mutations happen. Tyranids absorb what they eat, learn from the lifeform’s best qualities, and evolve into new critters that carry those traits. They are the epitome of a living weapon.
Now, with Primaris Marines being able to move faster, take more of a beating, etc., the Tyranids may have just upped the protein in their diet. What could come out of this all is slightly larger/mutated Tyranids that have derived off of the Primaris.
Of course, GW could also just say that all of the Tyranids were completely wiped out. That none of the bugs carrying Primaris genes in his stomach made it back to the hive mind. However, it would be a sorely missed opportunity not to see some evolved “Primaris” bugs.
Rumors of Blood Angels Vs. Tyranids for Psychic Awakening
It might take more than the events from the Devastation of Baal to knock Tyranids down. There have been more and more rumors popping up about volume 3 in the Psychic Awakening series. Supposedly, it’s going to be focused on Tyranids vs. Blood Angels. And with that, we could possibly see a Box Set featuring new models and even new rules eventually.
What do you think lies ahead for the Tyranids? Would Primaris Marines affect their gene-mutation any?
