Giving Wear to the Tires

Weathered tiresHe has already given them some base coats of blue and green when painting the rest of the tank. To start weathering the tires, he takes a 140 grit sandpaper and rounds off the edges of the tires. Then he takes a hobby knife and puts some little dents and such to whatever degree you want your tank to have.

Base coat tiresThen he mixes Luftwaffe from Vallejo and German Gray together and paints all of the tires, but leaves the middle.

Distressing the Tires

Painting Tires DistressedNext, he takes some of the Luftwaffe paint from above and puts it on a sponge. He then just hits that all over the outside of the tire. This gives the tire a more realistic look. Next, he adds some Sky Gray to the color from before and highlights the ridges of the tire. Next, take some Citadel Nuln Oil and hit the indents of the tire and along the edges.

Hitting the Inside Rims

Painting tires last stepNext, go with Pure Sky Gray and use it to enhance the shape of the tire, more towards the rim. Now, we’ll start painting more towards the center of the tire. He breaks the Nuln Oil back out and hits the inside rim of the tire, this gives the tire a more round feel.

Finished Tires

Weathered tiresThere you have it, some great-looking tires with not much effort!
