1st Place: Sean Olson – Space Marines / Ultramarines Army Lists
Sean’s Space Marines army list at the Flames of Autumn GT didn’t just stroll onto the battlefield—it arrived with a cadre of legendary heroes, a fleet of tanks, and enough firepower to remind everyone why the Emperor’s finest are feared across the galaxy.
With some of the toughest, most iconic models leading the way, Sean’s list was a perfect blend of durability, mobility, and unrelenting firepower. Here’s how this powerhouse army claimed victory and why even Chaos warlords might want to rethink their plans after seeing it in action.
First up, we have Marneus Calgar, the Chapter Master of the Ultramarines, striding into battle like the epitome of noble power. Calgar isn’t just a fantastic model; he’s a powerhouse who boosts mobility and generates precious Command Points each turn.
Think of him as both strategist and shield, holding the line while making sure everyone around him has a few more tricks up their armored sleeves.
And then, there’s Roboute Guilliman himself—the Primarch of the Ultramarines. Guilliman is more than just the best solo model in the faction; he’s a whirlwind of combat prowess, a force of nature who can also avoid being removed from play through sheer Primarch-level resilience.
Guilliman on the battlefield is like a battering ram in power armor: enemies fall, morale breaks, and allies rally in his presence. If you’re planning to go toe-to-toe with him, bring backup.
Adding some practical tech support were three Techmarines, whose expertise in battlefield repairs kept Sean’s mechanized units running smoothly. These engineers weren’t just there to tinker; they were essential, ensuring that the list’s heavy hitters stayed in fighting shape.
For infantry, Sean’s list included a Heavy Intercessor Squad and a Tactical Squad. The Heavy Intercessors came loaded with better ranged weapons than a standard Tactical Squad, offering both durability and firepower from a safe distance.
Then there’s the Tactical Squad, the dependable backbone of the Space Marine army, bringing a solid number of bodies at a reasonable price.
Tactical Marines might not be flashy, but they’ve been the mainstay of the Imperium for a reason: they’re adaptable, tough, and know how to handle just about any threat that comes their way. Paired with their armor-clad transport buddies, they’re ready to bring the fight right where Sean needed it.
To keep the Marines mobile, Sean brought in a Razorback and a Rhino, two classic transports that pull double duty. Not only do they ferry troops to key objectives, but they can also lay down extra shots each turn.
They’re the perfect delivery system for Sean’s Tactical Squad, giving them a safe ride into battle and adding a little extra bite to their weapons.
But the real showstopper in Sean’s armored lineup? Three Repulsor Executioners are the heavy firepower of the 41st millennium, armed to the teeth and ready to vaporize anything that dares to stand in their way. Durable and dangerous, they can withstand enemy fire and keep dishing out punishment from afar.
Meanwhile, the Redemptor Dreadnought is an icon in its own right. A walking war machine, it combines firepower and close-combat capability in one towering, armored frame.
Between the Repulsors and the Redemptor, Sean’s list had a veritable fortress on wheels, backed by the Techmarines who made sure any dings or dents were patched up ASAP.
2nd Place: Derek Apsche – Chaos Space Marines Army Lists
3rd Place: Tyler Brennan – Adeptus Mechanicus / Ad Mech Army Lists
In the end, Sean’s army didn’t just win—it set a standard. For fans of the Emperor’s Angels of Death, this list is a masterclass in why the Space Marines are still one of the most feared factions in Warhammer 40k. So, next time you see Marneus and Guilliman leading a charge, don’t say you weren’t warned.
These top army lists from The Flames of Autumn 2024 GT saw some fantastic contenders in Adeptus Mechanicus and Chaos Space Marines army lists, but Sean’s mix of leadership, armor, and support stood out.
For fans of the Space Marines (or anyone fond of the color blue), this victory serves as a solid reminder: sometimes, it’s not about the flashiest tech or the scariest monsters. Sometimes, it’s just about a few solid threats and “good enough” models across the board.
Regardless, if you’re a veteran player or just getting started playing Warhammer 40k, there’s a lot to learn from these top-tier tactics and compositions.
