We’re back again and we’ve been hearing some rumors that are actually making sense. Check out what people are talking about in this next FAQ.
Please remember to take everything with a grain of salt. there are just rumors and they’ll remain that way until proven otherwise. We heard from an anonymous source some hints at what we might be seeing.
RUMORS: 40k FAQ Points Changes & Stratagems
- Talos will be up +25 points
- Agents of Vect Will be once per turn, not once per phase.
- CP farming is getting nerfed -no clear idea just yet
- Shining Spears getting points increase
- Castellan is going to be over 700 points
Hypothetically, if these rumors come true, what would the future of 40k look like?
If the Rumors are True
If the rumors are true, army functionality would be changed for sure. None of these FAQ rumors look like it would completely take the competitiveness out of the army, but it would force players to make different decisions. There are three changes that would be seen in Eldar alone.
With Shining Spears costing more (Nick Nanavati’s star unit at NOVA), Vect being once per turn, and Talos getting a points increase, we may be seeing completely new Eldar lists. Bottom line is every Eldar list has been crazy this edition. They stomped other top armies at NOVA after all.
On the Imperial side of things, if the Castellan goes up to 700+ points and all the other Knights stay the same, we may see ol’ Ahab and his trusty Harpoon pop up on the table. He’s still a Dominus-Class Knight that can dish out the pain. The Castellan is usually used in Tandem with the Gallant Knight, however. People can actually take the Gallant for just under 400 points. Would we see an increase for that Knight as well? If they don’t increase the points for that Knight, most players may drop the Castellan and will be able to almost take two of them.
CP Farming is the Problem
Sure, Castellans are beasts. but what makes them so scary is all the CP that can be sunk into them. If GW decides to nerf CP farming, that’s definitely a step in the right direction. However, if they make it so that players can only spend CP generated from a detachment ON THAT detachment, that would level the playing field for all other armies.
What we’re saying by this is that a Battalion of Guard will generate +5 CP. Therefore, those 5 CP could only go to that Guard detachment. A player would have to take the Super Heavy detachment to get +3 CP and spend those CP on Knights.
Which there may be merit to this as it looks like the new Rogue Trader box set has some very curious wording for their factions CP’s as well now:
At the end of the day, we’re in that awkward waiting period with fingers crossed. We should be seeing an FAQ very soon. Until then, we can only guess and speculate what will be in it. What do you think about these rumored changes? Would you change anything that wasn’t mentioned?
