Tons of Firstborn Space Marines models are moving to Legends, and this new rumored list seems to follow that pattern in the codex.
There are also some big rumors about what models will be cut out of the codex, so we’ll also take a look at those compared to what Games Workshop has announced already for Space Marines that are moving to Warhammer Legends. Before we go further, these are rumors, and nothing is confirmed until GW says it is, so take these with as much salt as you need!
RUMORS: More Space Marines Firstborn Moved To Warhammer Legends
These new 10th Edition 40k Space Marines Warhammer Legends rumors are from Auspex Tactics (via Discord.)
Losing 30 datasheets seems kinda of insane, but with how much GW has been culling the Firstborn range, we’re not surprised. Remember, these are also rumors, so take them with some salt.
From the sounds, most of the Primaris characters will be rebranded as their name, but the Primaris may be getting dropped.
Considering there will be new Primaris Jump Marines, it only makes sense some of the jump characters would remain, but the Librarian may be biting the dust.
This, again, is no real surprise, as they are making Primaris versions of most units and removing the First Born ones.
While the Primaris name might be dropping, they may be keeping the different variants.
No surprises here, but let’s hope you can use those dreadnoughts as something new.
This is probably what most people are worried about; we’ve seen a ton of heroes removed over the past two years. Luckily, some of them are surviving. However that does not seem to completely match up with Games Workshop’s previous Warhammer Legends announcements.
Now, the Bike Captain is gone, but it seems you can use any character, as there is no distinction.
Last but not least, tons of Firstborn models are biting the dust, with bikes, dreadnoughts, Land Speeders, and more supposedly going away…
We heard a lot of rumors about tons of Space Marines models going to Legends, and unfortunately, this new rumored list seems to follow that pattern…
Here is the latest from Games Workshop themselves on the matter.
GW Liquidates More Space Marines Models to Legends: (July, 24th 2023)
Unfortunately, some iconic models are getting the axe this time, and some not-so-famous ones as well. Either way, GW says they will not be in the next codex and will be moved to Legends with free 10th Edition 40k rules or can be used as proxies for other units.
The list of Space Marines First Born models that are on the last chance to buy now and going to Legends comes from Warhammer Community.
The Space Marine range is already HUGE, so to make room for the glorious new miniatures, we’re letting some of the longest-serving kits depart the range for a well-earned retirement.
Fans of Firstborn Space Marines should know no fear, though – contrary to heretical whispers in the noosphere, they’re not being erased from the 41st Millennium. The new Space Marines Codex still includes plenty of non-Primaris units, if that’s your preference. Tactical Squads will still be driving about in Rhinos, fighting under the covering fire of Devastator Squads, and so on.
While some of these units might have been in the index, they will not survive the first round of 10th Edition codex books. GW has often assured people that all of First Born will not be gone, but this list hits some of the longest-lasting units.
Many departing units have a contemporary analogue that you can use instead – so the storied Bike Squad that has served you and the Emperor for 20 years could stay in your army, using the rules for Outriders.
In other cases, there’s data sheets that fit the bill for multiple units. So while Assault Squads are going away, you can still use the rules for Vanguard Veterans to play with them.
The Venerable Dreadnought also stays in the new Codex – but has shortened its name to just “Dreadnought”* and can be used to represent older plastic (or metal!) Dreadnoughts.
This is an interesting way to change the line, as multiple sets of models will use the same rules now.
There’s some departing units, like the Thunderfire Cannon or Land Speeder, that won’t have an appropriate analogue in the new Codex – but their rules will just shift to Warhammer Legends and will be free to download here on Warhammer Community. This means you can keep using them in all your games, with the exception of competitive Warhammer 40,000 events like tournaments. In most cases, these rules will be similar (if not identical) to the ones in the recent Index deck.
If a unit doesn’t have an appropriate proxy, it will just be moved to Legends with similar rules to what they have now. Either way, it’s sad to see something like the Landspeeder or Scouts removed from the active product lineup. However, if you want yours, be sure to get them now before they are gone for good!
