Come see the latest set of 40k Grim Dark rumors that are rolling in for what may be the next TWO new codex books!

Today Bell of Lost Souls has a bit of an update to what we’ve been hearing for a few weeks now:

Source BoLS:

An industry insider with a sterling track record tells BoLS:

The next two Warhammer 40,000 codexes are:

  • Codex Deathwatch
  • Codex Genestealer Cult

We’ve been hearing little tidbits about these for a bit, but this it yet another (quality) source chiming in, which is putting all the reliable rumormongers and insiders pointing in the same direction – which is what really matters in these types of rumor-mysteries.

Additionally he added some very interesting context:

  • Both of these books are complete.
  • These books are both slated for later this year (2016)
  • These books were not originally part of the GW strategic plan but were pushed into production quickly both to capitalize on the success of Deathwatch Overkill… AND… to shore up finances in the face of a toughening fiscal environment for the company.

Very interesting turn around of utilizing the success of one product to spin-off into another in such a short time period for such a big company.

Question:  More Deathwatch! Are we gonna see Deathwatch Scouts? Kill Marines? Dreadnoughts?
What secrets do you still guard, Sad Panda! How bad is my wallet going to hurt for Deathwatch?!

Reply: It’s not gonna bit a huge release, but enough. There’s a pretty cool, very sleek dropship/flyer with an enormous Inquisition =I= as fuselage. Probably builds more than one variant.

28mm Capt. Artemis is also a go, probably a single character clam pack.

This morning, BoLS reported the following:

The Codex Layout and Rules:

  • This is a very different layout and organization than the traditional Codex: Space Marines.
  • The codex will contain a very small number of units and many characters.
  • Every Character from Deathwatch Overkill is included.
  • There will be a HQ choice.
  • There will be 1-2 Troops unit choices.
  • 3-5 Formations.
  • Drop Pods are the only vehicles described in the codex.
  • The big theme of the codex is customization. While the number of units is very small, there are lavish and exhaustive upgrade options for each and every model in the army. Things such as wargear, weapons, and even originating chapters all can be picked and have in-game effects.
  • It is quite possible to sink giant amount of points into a very small amount of models if you wish.

Previously BoLS is reported the following:

New minis accompanying the codex:

  • A New Terminator HQ model, with full Deathwatch Iconography throughout his armor and is armed for assault.
  • A New Deathwatch accessory sprue – that will work with the existing Space Marine range.
  • This is in same vein as the previous Blood Angel, Space Wolves, etc… add-on frames
  • Deathwatch iconography pauldrons for both PA and Termys.
  • Deathwatch bolters, assault weapons and wargear.

WHAT: Codex Deathwatch is coming

WHEN: Look for the new codex in late Summer (August-September 2016 timeframe)

HOW: Look for the codex to NOT be a modified version of the Space Marine codex.  It will be a very different animal, representing the unique hard hitting but small forces of the Deathwatch.  There will be both existing minis and new unseen kits coming with the release.

It this the return of the Movie Marines? Will Ordo Xenos be on the way soon? Why do these rumors seem to conflict now?

Looks like we may have a little while longer to wait, just remember your salt on all of these folks!
