3rd Place: Tre O’Rourke – World Eaters
2nd Place: Jeff Jew – Orks
1st Place: Grant Kauffman – Death Guard
Grant’s winning Death Guard were led by two Biologus Putrifiers for Lethal Hits and free Grenades, two Foul Blightspawn for very strong close range models, two Malignant Plaguecasters for mortal wounds and reducing enemy movement.
HQs wrap up with Typhus, an iconic melee monster with the added benefit of mortal wound output and buffing the unit he leads.
The rest of the list starts off pretty standard, with two squads of Plague Marines for some bodies and three Rhinos to help protect and move units around during the game’s early stages.
A unit of Terminators pair up with Typhus for an insanely durable and dangerous melee blob. While a Fleshmower Bloatdrone acts as a mobile melee threat that is pretty point cost efficient. Three units of Nurglings act as cheap distractions and wound soakers for the more important units.
Three War Dog Brigands wrap up the list with some mobile ranged threats to help give the list ranged firepower that was missing until now!
There you have it: the top Warhammer 40k army lists from the San Diego were ruled by Death Guard, Orks, and World Eaters.
Grant’s Death Guard army came out on top thanks to its focus on Death Guard’s durability. Bringing in strong units that can perform in melee and ranged situations. Overall, studying these army lists offers some insight for newer Warhammer 40k players and pros alike.
