Games Workshop is pulling out all the stops this New Year with an Open Day that looks to have a quite a few treats in store for us. Check out what’s on the way!

What’s an Open Day? It’s when GW showcases a bunch of minis (could be new and old) and will have the latest releases up for sale. They’ll also be doing demo games and so much more! Let’s dive a little deeper into what Games Workshop will be doing January 5th, 2019.

What’s in Store for the Open Day?

Studio Area

Meet and greet the many creative minds behind the last 20 years of Warhammer. From games developers and background writers to miniatures designers and painters, illustrators and graphic designers, there are countless talented individuals involved in the design process and production of the games and model ranges, and many of them will be on hand to show you how it’s done.

You’ll be able to meet the very makers of your favorite character’s lore and model! The best part is they’ll be out walking around and free to meet!

Black Library Signing Area

A selection of Black Library authors will be attending to join in the seminars and sign copies of their books – be sure to bring your favourite novels along with you! If you ask nicely, they may even drop a hint or two about what they’re writing now…

If you’re a diehard Black Library fan, your favorite Author just might be in the crowd. You’ll be able to get your books signed by the very hands that wrote it!

Painting Clinics

Warhammer TV’s Peachy and Duncan will be on hand to offer painting and modeling guidance. They will be joined by members of the legendary ’Eavy Metal team, who will be discussing how to achieve world-class miniatures painting. Whether you’re relatively new or a painter of the highest caliber, you’ll be able to pick up some great tips.

Sit down with a pro painter and have some one-on-one teaching done by Duncan, Peachy, and the ‘Eavy Metal painters. If you’ve had some questions on how to pull off a certain effect, they’ll be on hand to make sure you leave knowing exactly what to do.

Painting Competition

Bring your best miniatures and enter them into the painting competition that will be taking place on the day. An elite team of judges will be tasked with picking the winners and top entries from each category, as well as choosing a single overall victor for the event. Even a less experienced hobbyist can learn a lot by chatting with the judges and many of the high-end painters who frequent such competitions. There will obviously be a huge selection of beautifully painted miniatures to check out, too!

If you’re confident enough in your painting skills, you can enter your already-painted mini into the competition where judges will grade it and pick the best one! If you are still new at painting, try hovering around the judges and hear what they have to say on the minis. You just might learn a thing or two.

Open Gaming Area

A trip to Warhammer World almost wouldn’t be complete without a game or two! With that in mind, there will be an area dedicated to ad-hoc bring-and-battle games on a selection of tables, ranging from standard battlefields to highly detailed and thematic war zones.

Maybe you’re just wanting to go to grab a quick game or two. Warhammer World has you covered. They’ll have tables already made with all sorts of terrain and war zones for you to pick from.

Demo Pods

With the impending release of Adeptus Titanicus, now is the time to prepare for the god-machines to walk! Checkout these helpful tips for your titans.

A number of staff will be on hand to teach a variety of games. Never tried Blood Bowl? Fancy yourself the Princeps of a god-machine in Adeptus Titanicus: The Horus Heresy? Seeking to enter the Blackstone Fortress? These games and more will all be available for you to try out!

Get your feet wet by testing out some games that you’ve been tossing around in your mind. You can play with some staff there that will teach you all the basics on the games! What’s so great about this is that you get the full experience of the game without a single cost to you.

Latest Releases and Event-exclusive Miniatures

All of the weekend’s newest releases will be available alongside the full selection of event-exclusive miniatures from Citadel and Forge World. And in the unlikely event of any of these items running out of stock, fear not – they will be shipped to you anywhere in the world postage-free!

With the event having the latest minis in stock and for sale, we’re sure there will be the Gloomspite Gitz. They’ll more than likely sell like hotcakes too. But that’s not all. Forge World will also be selling their latest projects to the people in-house. At the end of the day, if you show up and everything is sold out, they’ll still ship everything to you for free.

20 Years of Warhammer World

To celebrate this milestone, some of Games Workshop’s most iconic games and miniatures will be out on display for the first time in many years. Do you know what an Ambull or a Zoat is? What about the Squats? Come along and check them out – they’ve missed you!

GW will be blowing the dust off of their oldest minis and showcase them for everyone to see. Some newer fans may have no idea of all the abstract races in the 41st millennium. It turns out, they used to have models.

All in all, it looks like GW will be kicking off the new year strong. Warhammer Open Day is for new and old hobbyists alike to enjoy themselves and GW’s latest projects. Will you be making it to the event? What are you most excited for there? Let us know in the comments of our Facebook Hobby Group.
