Stop Wasting Money: Which Leviathan 40k Pre-Order Is Worth the Splurge!

new-releases-games-Workshop-leviathanHere’s how to decide if getting pre-ordering Leviathan from GW is worth it or if you should grab it from your local game store!

This time around, there are actually some bonuses for buying directly from the types of stores that stock Games Workshop. So your FLGS is also going to be getting exclusive goodies as well. Remember, you should always vote with your hobby dollars, and where you spend your money makes a big difference (well, as long as you like your local store, that is.)

How to Decide if the Leviathan Pre-Order is Worth Getting From GW

Let’s start with the box and pricing, then examine the pros and cons of ordering from different places.

Warhammer 40,000: Leviathan $250

This humongous box contains 72 new miniatures split between the Space Marines and the Tyranids.

This is, in fact, humongous, and even for the price tag of $250, this has all kinds of value inside. If you want to see the value breakdown, you can check that out here. Now, let’s see where it may be better to buy from.

Pre-Ordering Leviathan From Your Local Store

The pre-order bonuses differ depending on what store you buy from, but perhaps more importantly, you can also generally save cash when buying from a local store.

Leviathan Pre-Order from GW 2

Order from an independent Warhammer stockist and you’ll receive either a set of 28 double-sided deployment zone markers, or a Warhammer 40,000 branded neoprene dice tray featuring artwork of a Terminator helmet lens reflecting a Tyranid face. Speak to your local store to find out more.

First, stores are allowed to discount up to 15%, which, right off the bat, will save you $37.50! Next up, GW is actually giving non-GW stores pre-order extras. So not only can you save cash, but you can also score some cool exclusives (seen above).

So if you have a favorite store where you play games all the time, you perhaps consider spending some money there! Purchases over $200 are big and will help support your favorite store. While you have to put in the effort to drive, you are still getting pre-order goodies, saving cash, and supporting your favorite store!

Pre-Order Leviathan From a GW Store

Leviathan Pre-Order from GW 3

Purchase your set from a Warhammer store, you’ll get a set of 36 acrylic tokens, which includes six 40mm round objective markers, 10 battleshock tokens, and 20 wound tokens, in a stylish tin sporting the Leviathan logo.

If you buy at the nearest Games Workshop corporate store, you will get better extras than buying from the webstore, but GW stores cannot discount, meaning you will have to pay the full $250 price tag.

While the exclusives might be the coolest out of the bunch, if you play your games at a different store, that might be who you want to support. Sometimes, towns only have a GW store close, so may be the better option overall as you get some cool exclusives.

Buying From the GW Webstore

On top of that, there are a variety of pre-order bonuses available, depending on where you get your copy. If you order via the Games Workshop webstore, you’ll receive a set of two double-sided gaming boards with a total playable area of 30” x 44”.

The last option is buying directly from the GW webstore. This will get you a double-sided game mat, but from the looks of it, they may be just paper and are only 30” x 44”, meaning they are made for Combat Patrol games and not full 40k 2000 point 40k games.

While the price and extras are fairly lackluster from the webstore, this is probably your only option if you live in an area without a gaming store. You also don’t have to drive for this option, but you will have to sit through the queue, which could potentially take longer.

Overall we encourage everyone to always vote with your hobby dollars when it comes to the 10th Edition Leviathan box.

Games Workshop has seemingly gone out of their way to make it hard for hobbyists and retailers both to get stock so far this year and we all have a chance now to show them exactly how we feel about that via where we buy our copy of Leviathan.

Where will you pre-order your copy of the Leviathan box from, Games Workshop or an independent retailer?
