The crescendo of rumors for Tau this week are starting to come to a head. Once again someone out there obviously knows something (or again is doing a really good job making it up).
Either way it makes for a fun read about what just could be. Plus Faeit has been digging up all sorts of seeming creditable rumors from the tubes that I collected here.
If you missed my post earlier in the week, take a minute to checkout my personal tactical analysis of the current Tau meta. But be sure to take both my summary and these rumors with a grain of salt 🙂
- 1. Hand to Hand, while not the best at combat, some suits are higher strengths which helps fend off against scouting units, but doesn’t seem to do much against main force attacks.
- 2. That being said they have no true hand to hand troops (unless you count Kroot), which to me seem to be more of a hybrid scouting force than dedicated assault troops.
- 3. Marker-lights are a inherent part of their overall battle-plan, but once negated the army seems to be regulated back to just a normal shooty army with no benefits (besides maybe suit’s jump moves). I don’t feel like they have the rear end to recover from that with their low BS and twin linked weapons.
- 4. No flyer. ‘Nuff said.
au Overwatch, Flyers, and the Riptide
This was floating around over on 3++ and while some of it duplicates other rumors, there is some new stuff in here as well. The one thing that seems to be a constant, is that many people are claiming and maintaining that the codex release will be set for April.

there is a tank commander
Tau vehicles can no longer fire as fast vehicles (i.e. multi-tracker upgrade gone/changed)
Riptide – name of ubersuit and is an Elite choice.
Tau are getting close, and I had another confirmation last night that they are indeed coming in April. If this doesn’t start to get everyone excited for Tau, I don’t know what will.

Broadsides – 85 pts with S8 Ap1 Skyfire; not sure if this is in place of old S10 AP1 or if the 85 points + skyfire is an option but its there
Hammerheads – regardless of what Railguns are now in general, keeps S10 AP1
SMS – twin-linked, ignores cover
Crisis Suits – not likely to move to Troops as an option
Disruption Pods – only +1 cover
Tau Crisis Suits
Here is a little bit of insight from a good source regarding Tau Crisis Suits, its only a small bit, but with Tau right around the corner we are looking at a lot of Tau information coming in over the next few weeks.

Crisis Suits
The new suits are very similar to those old ones.
The heads don’t have a neck and are now lowered into the torso about 25% of the head is below shoulder level.
The arms are a bit shorter too.
Otherwise that’s a decent representation of the crisis suits.
Crisis Suit Variant, and Ubersuit Finally Named
There are a few more little Tau bits floating around. So I thought I would put them into one post. its not a whole lot, but is worth mentioning. Riptide seems to be the name of the new Ubersuit monstrous creature.

There is a new XV8 varient, but mostly they’re the same.
