Is it Worth It?

This is one of the better of the 10th Edition CPs we’ve seen. The value is higher than most we’ve seen and has a good mix of units inside. It will be a decent buy to start up a new force, even though it doesn’t have a wild number of points inside.

If you do need everything inside, this will save you some cash and give you a decent starting force. With the new Tau Combat Patrol, you get one of the $60 units inside for free, which is a solid value.

Overall, the newer 10th Edition Combat Patrols have been mostly underwhelming so far, but this one is bucking the trend.

How Many Points is it?

So, you’re wondering how many points the Tau Combat Patrol box racks up, eh? Well, in Warhammer 40k 10th edition, this box hits with about 300 points. But, as you know, the tides of the Grimdark universe are ever-shifting, and with the latest points updates, that number could quickly fluctuate.

One minute, you’re ready to spread the Greater Good, and the next, you’re recalculating your list because the points gods have decided to have some fun.

Breachers

tau fire warriors breachersThe path ahead is bathed in the radiant glow of the Greater Good, further illuminated by the pulsing energy of advanced pulse rifles. The valiant Fire Warriors, fueled by an unshakable belief in the fate of their race, engage in battle with relentless determination and remarkable expertise.

Among them, the Fire Warriors Breacher Team stands out, specializing in ruthless close-range assaults. They methodically clear buildings of threats, moving in a precise, tactical formation, and unleash sudden, intense displays of incendiary power.

Their pulse blasters discharge with precision, while photon grenades are hurled with devastating effect, leaving no path uncleared of enemy resistance.

Pathfinders

tauempirepathfinderteam01Pathfinder Teams, operating as agile and versatile reconnaissance units, play a pivotal role in providing real-time intelligence to their Commander. Unlike drones, these skilled teams possess the unique ability to observe and gather critical information about the enemy closely.

By venturing ahead of their comrades, they navigate perilous terrain to gain valuable insights, ensuring the safety and success of the larger force.

Devilfish

tauempirety7devilfish01The Devilfish is the workhorse of the T’au ground forces, able to carry up to twelve warriors into battle. This versatile transport is armed with a fearsome burst cannon, providing essential mobile fire support for the squad it carries.

The Devilfish is crucial for transporting T’au Fire Warriors and Pathfinders, ensuring their swift deployment and tactical positioning on the battlefield.

Tau Empire Commander

tauempirecommandercoldstar01Tau Commanders skillfully maneuver battlesuits of imposing size and formidable power, wielding an array of devastating weaponry such as flamers, ion blasters, and frag projectors. These XV-85 Enforcer Armour Crisis Battlesuits are not just instruments of destruction, but also symbols of strategic acumen and adaptability.

To attain the esteemed rank of Commander, years of unwavering dedication and relentless effort are necessary. Each Commander has earned their status through sheer perseverance and skill. Furthermore, the battlesuits are also equipped with advanced electronic countermeasure suites and extensive data-processing capabilities, enhancing their effectiveness in battle.

New Tau Combat Patrol Rules

As you’d expect from a Combat Patrol built for shooting mayhem, the Sudden Dawn Cadre comes loaded with rules to help you zip across the battlefield. The Cadre may be all about shooting, but they’re still Tau at heart, rocking the same Oath of Moment army rule as before.

What sets them apart this time are new Enhancements, secondary objectives, and Stratagems that sharpen their melee game even more. You can get all the new Tau Combat Patrol rules right here.

Prototype Systems Rule

Tau combat patrol Rules

True to the ideals of the Greater Good, T’au commanders are always willing to test out cutting-edge prototype weapons and gear themselves, taking on the risk personally instead of passing it to their troops. Plus, they get to wield some seriously advanced tech on the battlefield.

  • Whenever the bearer shoots, you can re-roll one Hit roll and one Wound roll for those attacks.
  • When rolling to determine the number of attacks with the bearer’s airbursting fragmentation projector, you can re-roll the result.
  • The bearer also enjoys a 4+ invulnerable save. Because who says high-tech can’t be high-risk?

Stratagem

Tau combat patrol Rules 2The Code of Fire demands that T’au warriors keep their firepower at full blast, even when they’re on the move, delivering precise volleys no matter the situation. For the rest of the phase, your unit can still shoot even if it Fell Back this turn. Retreat doesn’t mean they stop bringing the heat!

What to Buy Next?

tau stormsurge walpaper

This is a decent start on any style of army, really. However, if you want to go with either a Kroot or Battlesuit army, we would probably pass on this. From this point, you need some more Battlesuits, some heavy-fire support, and definitely some Stealth Suits.

There are many amazing new Kroot models out there, and we would definitely add a few for some combat prowess or scoring objectives. After that, you’ll need to start filling your army out for one of the specific new detachments and try to take advantage of the new rules!

Speaking of new rules, don’t forget those for this faction either, and take some time to read up on how to play them. We’ve got you covered in this article!

Whether you’re a new or veteran 40k player, the Tau Combat Patrol can be a great way to get started playing games and building your forces, especially if you’re not worried about building a Kroot army.
