Last of The GW Free Rules Have Been Paywalled

Age-of-sigmar-3.0-wal-hor-title-rulesIt’s a sad time for AoS players as the last of free rules from GW have been paywalled behind the newest Beta app.

The old AoS app was one of the best digital products GW had ever come out with. Honestly, it was easy to use, fast, and had every army in there. Now, the new app is going the way of the 40k one. Where you only have access to the battletomes that you pay for. At least unlike with the 40k app, they are legit being upfront that it is a beta offering,

However, you could also make the argument that they should have waited to cut off the old app that 100% worked till this was ready to go.

The old armies are still free in the new app, but every time they release a new book (i.e. Stormcast and Orruks) you will need to purchase the book to get access.

You could make the case that the core rules are still free from Games Workshop for both systems, however, you will still need the General’s Handbook, or Chapter Approved to play a matched play game.

Last of GW’s Free Rules Have Been Paywalled

age-of-sigmar-3.0The time of free rules and AoS players rubbing it into 40k players’ faces has come to an end. It’s quite unfortunate honestly, AoS is supposed to be an easier game to get into, with quick and easy rules.

Now, GW has decided the game has grown enough to not let that happen anymore. They also are taking down the free rules on the GW website to force more people towards the app. This all just means no more free rules. Plus, if the 40k app is anything to go on, AoS players have a lot to go through if the app is anything like the futuristic version.

AoS paywalledThis pic comes from Reddit, and guess what it shows? That Stormcast is already paywalled! So every time an army comes out, you will need the digital code from the physical book to get anything but the warscrolls.

This just really sucks at it is sort of the end of an era. One of free rules and an app that people honestly loved.

We’re really not sure why GW can’t listen to the community when it comes to things like this. Instead of letting people have something they like, they ruin it with another paywall… At least it somehow gives more intrinsic value to Warhammer plus for those subscribers.

Have you tried out the new app yet? How likely are you to get into Age of Sigmar now over another game ?
