Top 3 40k Army Lists: Emperor’s Challenge IX Tournament
Thanks to Best Coast Pairings we are able to look back at the event as if we were there ourselves.
3rd Place: Lars Palasin- Adepta Sororitas
The first list up is a Sisters of Battle List running a pretty standard HQ and Troop pool. Celestine and Triumph of Saint Katherine are both great pickups, plus 4 battle sister squads to form the meat of the objective taking force.
As for the Elites, there is an Imagifier, 2 squads of Repentia to get in melee and mainly serve as distractions, and 2 Zephyrim squads who would like to get in melee with weaker units and give the list some much-needed mobility.
The last chunk of the list is some more mobility in 2 Seraphim squads with a tad of ranged support. Adding more ranged support to the mix there are 2 squads of 5 Retributors running Multi-meltas which bring the anti-armor.
Lastly, they decided to take the Battle Sanctum for its aura, and at 55pts the only downside is having to take the extra detachment,
2nd Place: Simon Mogensen- Cult Mechanicus
For the HQ and Troops of the Mechanicus list, we see two different Tech-Priests bringing different weapons and traits to support the list. The Troops are 3 standard squads of Skitarii Vanguards.
As for the Elite section, we see they took 3 squads of Electro-Priests for some melee threats. While the Fast Attacks bring in 5 Ironstrider Ballistarius for a decent amount of mobility and ok range options, plus 2 squads of 3 Serbrys Raiders offering even more mobility to the list while being very cheap to field.
Moving onto the Heavy Support we see some of the heavy-hitters in 3 Skorpius Disintingrators, who each bring decent weapons for armor and chaff alike. The Transports feature two Duneriders with standard load-outs and a Termite Assault Drill, which not only transports but can do decent damage after arriving on the field as well.
For the Chaos list, they opted to go Slaanesh, however, they went Chaon Space Marines instead of the standard Slaanesh Daemon list.
For HQs, they went a Daemon Prince with Wings to offer some re-rolls and serve as a general threat himself, plus a Dark Apostle with the all-important Warp Time psychic power to get a melee beater (like the Daemon prince) into melee faster without taking as much damage from ranged fire. Troops feature 38 cultists for chaff to hold objective and screen while a squad of 20 Noise Marines offers great ranged support assuming you can keep them alive to keep the full damage potential. Fast Attacks have a single unit of Warp Talons as the trick up your sleeves to help tie up a unit for a turn, while two Baleflamer Heldrakes in the Flyers slot help wipe out the opponent’s chaff.
For the second detachment, they took a single Keeper of Secrets (to warp time up the board) and get into melee. While a squad of 30 Daemonettes offers a decent unit to deep strike in and cause havoc as well.
Chaos Victory- Congrats to Juan on the win!
