Thanks to Best Coast Pairings we are able to look back at the event as if we were there ourselves.

3rd Place: Ben Cherwien- Black Templars

maelstrom bt 1First up for the Black Templars, High Marshal Helbrecht was taken for good re-rolls and overall great unit. One of the main reasons you would go Black Templars over other chapters. A Chaplain on a bike offers good support with mobility at a good price point. Two Bladeguard Vet squads offer 210 points of pretty hardy melee fighters, plus a squad of 8 hammer/shield terminators makes a force to be reckoned with. A squad of Vanguard Vets with Jumpacks, Claws, and Shields make for a great mobile unit. Overall this is a very hardy melee infantry list with decent mobility.

maelstrom bt 2Finishing out the Black Templars there’s a squad of Attack Bikes and Inceptors for even more mobility options and those wonderful Plasma Exterminators. Follow that up with an Eradicator and a Whirlwind and you got a pretty solid melee list backed up by decent mobility and great anti-armor as we have been seeing a lot as of late!

2nd Place: Nathan Bates- Necrons

maelstrom necron 1The first thing you notice in a Necron list is the Silent King. Granted how much he offers there’s not really a reason not to take him. This player also opted to take a Cryptek and Overlord, give good buffs and aura all around. The only downside is keeping track of them all.

maelstrom necron 2As for the body of the list, there’s a single squad of 20 Warriors, 6 Skorpekh Destroyers, and 12 Scarab Swarms. While there is strangely low number of warriors, but granted how good Skorpekh Destroyers are in melee, it’s probably worth the trade-off. Scarabs are always good for only 90 points per 6, whether it’s getting objectives or wrapping up troublesome units.

Necron Szarekhan Dynasty RulesNot too bad when they get these kinda bonuses from being Szarekhan!

maelstrom necron 3Wrapping up the Necron List, there are actually 2 squads of 3 Lokhust Heavy Destroyers (shocker), giving the list a good amount of anti-armor OR infantry shooting. And lastly, a single Skorpekh Lord to help march up the board and be a menace in melee.

1st Place: James Kelling- Eldar

maelstrom eldar 1The bulk of this list is Harlequins. A Troupe master and Yvraine and both solid options in the HQ slot offering unique benefits. If you go a Troupe master, you’ll need Troupes! This list runs 4 squads of 5 each with fusions and one with shuriken pistols. There is also a single Death Jester as a solid elite ranged unit.

maelstrom eldar 2The rest of the Harlequin section has two squads of signature Skyweavers to give the list mobility that packs a punch. Along those same veins, there are three star weavers to transport the Troupes to the front and protect them along the way.

Lastly, this Eldar opts to take a detachment of Craftworlds. This is to get a Farseer for support, 3 Hornets for even more mobility. and 3 War Walkers for decent ranged support that’s pretty cheap.

This seems to be the boiler plate template for top placing Harlequin army lists in 9th Edition 40k right now.

Eldar Victory- Congrats to James on the win!

What do you think about these 40k army lists from the Mid-MO Maelstrom? Are Space Marines going to stay at the top in 9th Edition? What do you think about Eldar?
