Top 3 40k Army Lists: Narbycon GT Tournament
Thanks to Best Coast Pairings we are able to look back at the event as if we were there ourselves.
3rd Place: William Lewis- Adeptus Custodes
Starting off William opted to take Trajann Valoris, who gives you hit and wound re-rolls for 1s still, and has the unique ability to make a stratagem free once a game (or add CP or attack a second time). As for the Troops in the first detachment, there is a single squad of 3 Custodians with blades and shields.
Moving onto Elites, there is a squad of 5 Allarus Custodians running axes and misericordia offering a bit more power than the standard Custode squad and a Vexilus Praetor making your opponents subtract 1 to hit for shooting when targeting a model within 6″ of the praetor.
For Fast Attacks, there is a single squad of 5 Venatari Custodians, which have jump packs, giving the list some extra mobility for capping objectives and taking out easy, lone targets.
Finishing out the first detachment is a Telemon Heavy Dreadnought with double storm cannons to help clear out screens and chaff with its volume of shots.
Starting the 2nd detachment there is a single HQ of an Allarus Terminator Shield Captain giving even more hit rerolls to the list. This is followed by another single Custodian Guard squad running blades and shields.
Elites for the 2nd detachment brings 2 squads of Prosecutors for cheap bodies that can grab objective while your list tries to widdle down the opponent’s forces. Along with those 2 squads are two Null-Maiden Rhinos to help protect the prosecutors as they move towards the objectives, or deploy to shut down psykers within 18″
2nd Place: Veit Win- Imperium Knights
Right out of the gate we see 2/3rds of the list points spent on two squads of three Moiraxes and a single melta squad of Armigers. These both have good movement and are a tad harder to lock down than a standard big knight, having multiple bodies also give you a higher volume of shots and you can split those shots when you need to more easily.
They also score objectives nicely too.
The second detachment is Ad Mech. There is a single HQ in a Tech-Priest Enginseer, who can help heal up your knight squads. For Fast Attacks, there are 26 Serberys Raiders. They offer great mobility are decent enough on their own, but they will primarily grab objects when they can safely.
Lastly, a single flier was put into the list as an Archaeopter Fusilave, which can drops bombs each turn and can help keep your raiders from fleeing by giving them 9 leadership.
Regulators, mount up!
1st Place: Mark Perry- Chaos Space Marines
For the CSM list, there are two Detachments. The first is Black Legion and is lead by Abaddon, a Dark Apostle, and a Sorcerer. Abaddon is an auto-include as he is a beast in combat, but also can offer your Black Legion full hit re-rolls (which are becoming rarer and rarer). The Dark Apostle and Sorcerer are standard support pieces as they can help buff and protect key units when you need to most.
30 Cultists are all the troops, and while it may be less effective to cheese with them like the last edition, they are still very cheap bodies that can screen or even just sit on an objective. Abaddon definitely makes them more killy too.
For Elites, there are two squads of Plague Marines each with two flails, making them great in melee. There is a single Drop Pod, most likely for a squad of Plague Marines to use so they can get as close to melee as possible without getting shot. There is also a single Sicaran Battle Tank which offers a decent volume of shots for its cost, but don’t forget to pay the CP troll toll now.
Starting the 2nd detachment, they actually decided to go for Emperor’s Children. They went with a Daemon Prince with Wings for some re-rolls and a great combatant in his own right. There is also another Dark Apostle for more support. As for Troops, there is a single 20 man Noise Marine squad, which gain access to a ton of stratagems that allow shotting again when you kill something, or even +1 strength and +1 damage fro everyone in the squad, both of which mean the squad can obliterate a target or even large blobs of enemies.
There is also a single Mutilator Squad which can be very variable but overall are good on average, well kinda…
Chaos Space Marine Victory- Congrats to Mark on the win!
