Top 3 40k Army Lists: Siege of Augusta GT Tournament
Thanks to Best Coast Pairings we are able to look back at the event as if we were there ourselves.
3rd Place: Mark Perry- Chaos
The Chaos list went for World Eaters and is led by Kharn and a Dark Apostle. These offer the rest of the list a suite of rerolling buffs that are the old fashioned auras. Most armies are getting these types of re-roll aura removed, so try this list while you can.
Troops see a total of 25 berserkers with each champion bringing a lightning claw for extra oomph. These are the bread and butter of any World Eaters list, and rightfully so. What they don’t even attempt in ranged combat, they go all-in on melee. If these get into melee they will kill something, just make sure they get into melee.
Elites see a single squad of Rebutcher Upgraded Terminators. Each of these has a single claw and a Combi-Bolter, with two swapping the bolters for Reaper Autocannons. This loadout gives them a tiny bit of ranged firepower while also being beasts in melee thanks to fighting twice as Red Butchers.
Fast Attacks bring 30 Raptors with a single Lightning Claw in each. This gives the list some units with mobility, although raptors are fairly fragile and not amazing in combat, so they definitely need to be used carefully.
Heavy Support adds 4 Havocs with Autocannons, helping clear out the chaff before the melee units charge in. making sure to get the most bang-for-buck of this style of list.
Transports are a must in this style of the list and this player brought 3 Rhinos to help bring the berserkers up the field with a character or two without getting blown off the board turn one.
The second detachment is a simple patrol with a Jump pack Sorcerer to offer Warptime and Prescience for additional mobility and combat power to a unit, while a single unit of cultists helps prevent the cost of a CP for an auxiliary and a few extra chaff bodies.
2nd Place: Gavin Conn- Necrons
The first detachment is lead by two Chronomancers. These offer charge rerolls and 5+ invulns to one unit each. They also have the nice bonus of a unit of Cryptothralls that don’t take up an org slot and help keep those Cypteks in play. The Nightbringer recently got a small points bump, and it looks like Gavin still got some success running with it.
Fast Attacks bring 27 Scarab Swarms. These offer great distractions that are great at wrapping up shooting units in melee for a turn or two while the rest of the list can do damage.
One more Chronomancer brings an extra charge reroll and 5+ invuln to dish out.
There is only one Troop in the second detachment and it is a squad of Immortals. These are more elite than the standard warriors and as such offer some heavier firepower in the Gauss Blaster.
10 Skorpekh Destroyers bring a pretty good melee combatant that can hold its own and tango with the best of ’em.
There are also 10 Wraiths. These are similar to Scarabs except they can actually do quite a bit of damage in melee and are much more mobile.
1st Place: Seth Piper- Necrons
The first detachment is lead by Command Barge, Royal Warden, and a Chronomancer. We covered their buffs above but the Warden helps buff Core units like the upcoming warriors.
For Troops, there are 40 Necron Warriors, all of which are decent bodies with shooting and make for good targets of the Warden buffs.
Elites bring the Void Dragon, which in itself acts as a mini-primarch and has the opportunity to demolish anything in melee.
Fast Attacks have a squad of 3 Tomb Blades, which offer some mobility and shooting pressure, while the 10 Praetorians are pretty good elite melee combatants.
Lastly, of course, they also took The Silent King. He is simply too good to not take. He offers good buffs and isn’t too shabby on his own as a combatant either.
Necron Victory- Congrats to Seth on the win!
