Three more off-meta army lists emerged in these 9th Edition 40k tournaments over the weekend- take a look at these homebrew lists!
9th Edition’s meta is still settling, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was expecting. Check out these awesome homebrew lists that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. They didn’t do too bad and this just goes to show that it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.
Top 3 Homebrew 40k Army Lists November 14th
Thanks to Best Coast Pairings we are able to look back at the event as if we were there ourselves.
Mid-MO Maelstrom: Orks- Joshua Thomas
Starting off with the Ork list, Ghazghkull, and a Weirdboy as super standard choices. Plus a Big Mek as a slightly more unique one. For troops, there are 3 squads of 10 Gretchin offering a ton of chaff for not too many points. Then starting elites, there is a 5 man squad of Tankbusta Bomb Kommandos, offering some anti-armor and blast.
The other elite choice is a squad of 5 Meganobz with Killsaws to mix it up in melee. The fast attack brings out a squad of triple Scrapjets, offering good aerial support, and when the time comes, a last-ditch bomb. There are also three Shokkjump Dragstas, giving the list some mobility on the ground. Starting the Heavy support, there is a Bonebreaka with a Deff Rolla, getting more melee support with staying power.
The rest of the heavy support includes 6 Smasha Guns, which can be hard to damage high toughness targets, but ultimately they do pack quite a punch. Lastly, there is a single Painboy in an auxiliary detachment for that little extra bit of character support the Orks are known for.
Mid-MO Maelstrom: Adeptus Custodes- Aaron Cook
Starting off the Custodes list for HQs, there are double Shield-Captains on Jetbikes. These are very mobile and pack a huge punch in both melee and shooting with double 2+ on WS and BS. The Troops bring three squads of Sagittarum Custodians, each squad is bringing two Misericordias, meaning they are great in melee as well as shooting. Starting the Elites, there is a squad of Allarus Custodians, once again bringing Misericordias to make them great in both shooting and melee.
The second Elite choice is a Vexillus Praetor, which is bringing Vexilla Magnifica, making your nearby Custodes -1 to hit in shooting. Then Fast Attacks, bring two of the smaller hover tanks, which have great shooting and move 16″. There are also 5 Venatari Custodians with Destroyers and Bucklers, making solid units all around with their lastest FW update. Lastly, for Heavy Support, there is a single Telemon Heavy Dreadnought for a great ranged support option at 260 pts.
Mid-MO Maelstrom: Adepta Sororitas- Jason Merten
For the first HQ, they opted to take Triumph of Saint Katherine, which has the ability to take a bunch of relics making it a great support option. Then going straight to Elites, a single Imagifier for some ranged support, 18 Sisters Repentia to wreak havoc in melee, and a Zephyrim Squad for some mobility in case you need to grab a faraway objective. Last for the first detachment is a Rhino to help transport some of your troops or repentia up the board.
For the bigger detachment, Celestine and a Canoness lead the force as great solo units who can also support the list. For Troops, there are 4 squads of Battle Sisters as the standard troop option. Moving onto Fast Attack, there is a little more mobility in the Seraphim who opted to take 2 extra Inferno pistols to help the damage output a bit.
Moving onto Heavy Support, there is an Exorcist and more importantly, two big squads of Retributors filled to the brim with Multi-Meltas, giving the list a ton of anti-armor. Lastly, there is an Immolator for more ranged support and another Rhino to help march your troops up the board.
Overall each of these lists offers a little bit of a different approach by we like them because of their all-in on an aspect of their faction in a response to the meta. Even better they are getting decent results from the players.
