Three more off-meta army lists emerged in these 9th Edition 40k tournaments over the weekend- take a look at these homebrew lists!
9th Edition’s meta is still settling, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was expecting. Check out these awesome homebrew lists that emerged in different tournaments over the weekend. They didn’t do too bad and this just goes to show that it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.
Top 3 Homebrew 40k Army Lists October 10-11th
Thanks to Best Coast Pairings we are able to look back at the event as if we were there ourselves.
Black Hole Wars GT: Harlequins- Alfredo Cavaco
Looking at the structure and the first section of the list, we can see he opted to take a single large battalion (as most seem to do in the 9th edition) and also took an additional relic. They took 3 HQs. Including a Shadowseer Warlord to give troops within 6 inches -1 to hit. Then two Troupe Masters for wound roll re-rolls within 6 inches as well.
For the troops, they opted to take a ton of Troupe squads. 3 squads of 6, 2 squads of 9, 1 squad of 10, give a total of 46 bodies and around 800 points of forces. It is important to know that harlequin re-rolls only affect infantry, so taking tons of Troupes like this is generally a good way to structure your list.
For the next section of the list, there’s a Death Jester offering a cheap elite who can take out individual threats and a Solitaire, who is a beater that can challenge your opponent’s threats.
There are also 2 squads of 5 Skyweavers, which have decent shooting and offer some speed to the list that can contest your opponents more mobile units.
Lastly, there are 3 Starweavers. These each can transport 6 infantry, hence the 3 squads of 3 Troupes. We’re pretty sure if this model falls back due to its open-top ability, the troops inside can still shoot since they can shoot if they fall back.
Black Hole Wars GT: Chaos Space Marines- Frederico Guerreiro
This list comprises two parts, a main Alpha Legion Chaos Space Marine section, and a smaller Daemon detachment. First up the Alpha Legion Vanguard Detachment.
A Sorcerer is leading the force with the standard Psychic powers Prescience and Warp Time. Moving onto the elites there are two Helforged Dreads with twin Lascanons for some anti-armor and 2 squads of possessed totaling 18 bodies. There is one squad of 5 raptors just for a tiny bit of mobility to try to distract a unit for a turn.
Of course, if you play CSM you probably want to take a squad of Slaanesh marked obliterators, so you can deep strike them in and use the shoot twice stratagem to delete a single troublesome unit. Lastly for the Marines, there’s 2 rhinos to help transport your possessed up the board with your Sorceror.
Back In Stock For a Limited Time!
Moving onto the Daemons detachment, it seems to be Nurgle and Tzeentch based. Two Fluxmasters offer some more Psychic support, while the three squads of Nurglins offer cheap bodies to score, which are surprisingly hard to deal with. Two squads of 5 flamers then give you some cheap, well, flamers, which are decent for their cost and ability to deny areas of the battlefield.
Black Hole Wars GT: Tyranids- Josh Berrios
Starting off with the Tyranids list we see they opted to take the Kraken fleet for better advances and the ability to fall back and charge in the same turn. This makes your forces very slippery and allows you to choose where and when you fight, despite your opponent’s efforts.
For HQs, they took a Broodlord and a Neurothrope for the Psychic support while also getting a very solid melee unit in the Broodlord and adding one to hits for Genestealers within 6 inches.
Moving onto troops there are 3 squads of 5 Genestealers who are getting buffed by the Broodlord, so they will probably move in a pack. Then a single squad of Ripper Swarms for some objective control and two squads of Warriors to take advantage of the Kraken trait and really punish enemy units in melee.
For elites, there is a Maleceptor, followed by a squad of Hive Guard and Zoanthropes. The Maleceptor offers some melee punch and some mortal wound output, while the Hive Guard is strictly your anti-armor support. The Zoanthropes are buffed by the Neurothrope and offer some more mortal wound output.
Lastly, Heavy Supports are two Tyrannofex and an Exocrine. the Tyrannofex offers decent shooting to deal with blobs effectively, while the Exocrine can do a lot of damage but unfortunately can’t move in order to get a hit buff and then hit on 3s.
Overall each of these lists offers a different approach to the meta which currently seems to be Marines taking advantage of their more elite options and trying to outvalue opponents.
