Don’t miss the latest unbeatable armies for Warhammer 40k that made it to the top at the highly competitive Dicehammer GT 2019!
Thanks to Best Coast Pairings, we can see the full breakdown of points and lists players brought. Check out what made it to second place all the way through fourth place as we go through each army.
According to the Dicehammer GT website, there are a ton of reasons for attending the event. Maybe you should fit this into your schedule for next year:
The Dicehammer GT will be hosted at Forest Lanes, a Bowling Alley in the Heart of Orange County (no, we are not part of San Diego or LA, there is a whole other county that separates the two). The Dicehammer GT will be a 46-player, 2-day Warhammer 40k ITC tournament.
Why You Should Attend:
- Every table will have painted, Line of Sight blocking terrain, and a Tablewar gaming mat
- It’s held in a bowling alley. Cheap food and cheap drinks! Other food/drink options are close by, but we’ll cover that under accommodations…
- It’s the first California GT after Las Vegas Open – earn ITC points early for participating in a GT
- It’s the perfect way to test drive your tournament list before the Broadside Bash and Bay Area Open
- Awesome prizes! We have over $1,000 worth of prizes lined up already.
- Low-cost GT at only $55!
Some of the top players across the country put dice down on the tabletops. Here are the top lists!
If you missed it recently check out the 5-0 undefeated winner of the tournament! Daemon soup is stronger than people might have thought
2nd Place: Genestealer Cult- Cooper Waddell
There’s not a lot scarier than forty Kraken Genestealers being buffed up by a Broodlord. (Yes a Swarmlord makes them faster, but still). It’s not really a surprise that we’re seeing Genestealer Cult paired up with Tyranids, but what is a little shocking is the Broodlord/Patriarch combo.
Broodlords and Patriarchs both buff their own Genestealers respectively. But they also serve a double purpose at being a fantastic can opener. The player put the Patriarch in a GSC detachment with some Aberrants. Perhaps he used the Patriarch to chase down medium armor as well to make them pay for stepping onto his hive world.
Last but not least, the new Acolyte bomb is full of hand flamers. Each of these guys gets D6 auto-hitting shots that can appear 3″ outside of an enemy unit. Imagine getting hit with 20 D6 hits out of the blue. Say goodbye to any kind of screen you had left.
3rd Place: Chaos Space Marines- Alan Dehesa
An Alpha Legion Detachment loaded with some unlikely choices was taken for third place. A Chaos Lord, Obliterators, a Hellforged Deredo Dreadnought and a Scorpius were given the mark of Slaanesh in a Spearhead detachment. Their main job was to unload on the enemy while Poxwalkers and Mortarion made their way up the board.
Speaking of Poxwalkers, they were thrown into a mixed Battalion detachment supported by Ahriman and a Daemon Prince. The Poxwalker’s main purpose was just to gob up the board and have bodies on objectives. And last but not least, we all know how Mortarion works. He can walk right through swathes of souls of the Imperium if you let him get close enough.
4th Place: Cult Mechanicus- Jason Mckenzie
This is actually an Imperial list bringing a Guard Battalion loaded to the brim with Psykers and Mortars. The Guard hung back, for the most part, defending objectives and shelling enemies that thought they were safe inside buildings.
Moving onto the Cult Mechanicus, Belisarius Cawl and a couple of Enginseers lead four troops of Kataphron Breachers/Destroyers. To add a little backbone to the Kataphrons, three Dunecrawlers marched close behind. As soon as one of their precious machines got damaged, the Enginseers jumped into action.
This list looks surprisingly effective. Mortars pounded the enemy line as the stubborn Kataphron troops got closer and closer. If the enemy wasn’t able to deal with the constant mortar shelling or destroy enough of the closing Kataphrons, it would prove to be a short game.
Looking at the meta, it still looks as fresh as ever. While there are some archetype lists we’re seeing continuously place top, every player is able to put their own spin on things and perform well. Congratulations to everybody that placed at the event. Hopefully, we’ll see you all on the tables again next year!
