Custodes score a spot behind the best armies as a new homebrew Warhammer 40k army list emerged at Goonhammer Open!
9th Edition’s meta is again in flux, but some players take lists with units that nobody expected. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. This shows us that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.
Top 40k Homebrew Army List: Goonhammer Open
Thanks to Best Coast Pairings, we can look back at the event as if we were all there ourselves. Check out the details here.
If you wanted to see the names and factions of the overall winners, we’ve included that below.
However, we aren’t covering all those lists. Instead, we will look at just one of our favorites this week.
Goonhammer Open: George Leathley – Adeptus Custodes 7th Place
George took Custodes, who we haven’t seen in a while, in the top 8s! He went for a battalion led by a Shield Captain and Trajann. The captain provides a re-roll aura along with great ranged and mobility thanks to his jet bike. Trajann offers more support and better stats due to his position in the guard, making him another easy include in the HQ slot.
Troops bring six basic Custodians for some durable and elite troops, along with four Prosecutors for a cheaper option, and three Sagittarum featuring some better weapons and slightly lower durability compared to normal custodians.
Elites bring in two Achillus Dreads, which feature a very durable chassis and good chaff-clearing ranged weapons.
Finally, rounding out the list is three Vertus Praetors for some mobility being able to zip around the map and pick off stragglers with ease over the course of the game.
