Top Homebrew 40k Army List: Motor City Mayhem GT

40k-homebrew-army-listsAnother off-meta 40k army list emerged in the Motor City Mayhem 100+ Person GT Tournament, check this one out!

9th Edition’s meta is still settling, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was expecting. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. They didn’t do too bad and just goes to show that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.

Motor City Mayhem 100+ Person GT: Jason Sniegowski- Deathwatch

motor city DW 1Starting off Jason’s Battalion of Deathwatch, his 3 HQs are a Captain, Librarian, and a Watch Master. These each provides unique support to the list. The captain provides rerolls to hits of one and has a Jump Pack which will allow him to swoop around with a large portion of the list to give out tons of rerolls.

The Librarian gains some unique Psychic powers, which can add 1 to hit rolls in melee and fight first, or a 5+ FNP which are both fantastic in this list. The Watch Master has the same reroll aura as the captain, while also being able to target one squad to reroll all hits for that turn, which is super strong when you have some of these larger body count squads, as this list does.

The first Troop choice is an Indomitor Kill Team which has 5 Eradicators with Melta rifles, giving a good amount of heavy-hitting anti-armor shots. The other 5 members of the Kill Team are Heavy Intercessors with Hellstorm Bolt Rifles, serving as more basic Troops that can grab objectives or soak wounds with little worry.

motor city DW 2The next Three Troops are identical and account for a total of 15 Deathwatch Veterans and 15 Vanguard Veterans. The Deathwatch Vets are running base Power sword and Boltguns to keep the cost down, while the Vanguard Vets are running the infamous Claw Shield loadouts making 15 mini-captains that are hard to kill, move fast, and can deal a ton of damage. Not to mention the Captain and Watch Master will be running around with these to give rerolls to hits.

motor city DW 3The fifth and final Troop is a Spectrus Kill Team with 5 Infiltrators and 5 Reivers. These serve as the “scouting party”, being able to deep strike in and surprise opponents or grab an easy out-of-the-way objective.

Finally finishing the list is 2 Relic Contemptors both running Twin Volkite Culverins. This gives each Contemptor 16 S6 Shots at 2 Damage with the potential to splash in an extra mortal wound on 6s to wound. These are space marine killing machines, each hit that gets through is a dead marine and with 32 total shots, even without AP, these are going to kill some models every turn.

Overall this list offers a little bit of a different approach but we like it because of their all-in on an aspect of their faction in a response to the meta.

Even better they got great results from the player who piloted it! It’s also very encouraging when a player is able to play a widely considered “underpowered” army or list style so effectively.
