Ultras crack the top 3 at a major 40k tournament!  Check out the top army lists from the Flying Monkey Con GT, and see if Space Marines are back!

The Flying Monkey Con  40k tournament in Kansas brought in 80 players to roll dice. Check out these top three lists that rose out of the meta there. Thanks to Best Coast Pairings, we can look back at the results as if we were there ourselves.

3rd Place: Ultramarines- Ben Neal

Roboute_Guilliman_Avenging_Son

Starting off, there’s a cheap Battalion of Scouts being led by ol’ Tiggy and a Phobos Librarian. That’s the first time we’ve seen both of these HQs grace the top charts.

Next, a Vanguard Detachment sporting the Victric Guard formation was made up of close combat Veteran Marines and some Victrix Honor Guard.  Look out lord D, Strats can let one of these models pile in and attack at the end of the enemy’s charge phase. The standard gives +1 attacks and yet another strat gives +1 to hit. OUCH!

For some quick objective grabbing, a cheap-o Scout Bike squad was used for a little extra reach. And as for some anti-armor firepower, a double Storm Cannon Leviathan was brought along. This list also found the points to fit in a Thuderfire cannon with Techmarine as well. This was probably used for the stratagem to slow enemy units down. (There’s not a whole lot of damage a single thunderfire can do).

Last but most certainly not least, Robbie G stepped foot on the battlefield for some massive reroll buffs. All in all, this list behaved much more melee-centered from the normal Robbie G gunline. Great job!

2nd Place: Tau- Nicolas Weiss

Tau Wal Hor

Looking at Tau, this is just the same classic list we’ve seen time and time again with a few tweaks. Three Battalions of Fire Warriors were taken with Shadowsun and a Ghostkeel thrown in the mix.

Of course, the main spine of the list came from the three Burst Cannon Riptides drowning in a see of Shield Drones. The Fire Warriors offered some decent S5 firepower and were able to reach objectives. Meanwhile, the main firing platform came from the three Riptides turning anything in range to swiss cheese.

1st Place: Chaos- Treynor Wolfe

Chaos may be reigning supreme but this is a new list (basically).  Making full use of Forge World, they brought five Dreadnoughts total in a Purge Legion. The rules for these guys is that basically, everyone else gets to shoot better if they all pick on the same target. Altogether, the Deredeos and Contemptors formed a gunline popping key targets while the Plaguebearers and Horrors screened. The Khorne Daemon Prince would just melt through armor like butter.

And lastly, your favorite Chaos HQs to hit the scene formed a Supreme Command Detachment and moved around the board wherever they needed to.

At the end of the day, we’ve seen these archetypes pop up in the top list-meta before. However, these players threw their own twist into the mix making it interesting all over again. What does your list look like? Is your list designed to counter another top meta army? Let us know in the comments of our Facebook Hobby Group.
