40k dreadnought faq

The ATC has come and gone and Andrew Whittaker has done the unthinkable! His single CAD Blood Angels army went 6-0! Don’t miss this “underdog” list!

With a list based around 6 dreadnoughts, he has gone undefeated at the ATC. Yes, that is right. He was not playing scrubs all day either. ATC this year was the biggest and most competitive it has ever been, and his team, The General Staff Loyalists, managed to place 8th overall, a very respectable finish. How could he have done this? What did he play against? Let’s review his list one more time and then dig in:

Now, What did Andrew play against?
Round 1: Flyer spam based around Fireraptors
Round 2: Wulfen and Thunderwolf Star
Round 3: Daemons with lots of flesh hounds and summoning
Round 4: War Convocation with Double Knights
Round 5: Thunderwolf Star plus Librarius Conclave
Round 6: Thunderwolf Star plus Raven Guard

That is not an easy list of opponents. However, in every round Andrew used the strength of dreadnoughts to get a win over everyone he faced, in some cases tabling his opponent early in the game.

The Lucius pods are really what make this army work. They provide a reliable way to get dreadnoughts close to the enemy and then into combat. And with the attack bonuses that dreadnoughts have received via the GW FAQ, they can do a ton of damage when they attack, even enough to overwhelm a Deathstar, all while cheap objective secured units secure objectives across the battlefield.

Andrew has proven himself to be the champion of dreadnoughts, bringing a unit back from the brink of non-use and showing us that when used correctly dreadnoughts can be incredibly powerful. Hopefully the exploits of this Dreadnought Hero will inspire us all to find ways to make dreadnoughts and other marginalized walkers work on the tabletop.

It can be done!
