Games Workshop previewed a few of the narrative missions coming inside the Vigilus Defiant book as well as a sneak peek of some more formations. Without any more delay, let’s dive right in.
Vigilus Defiant Campaigns & Missions
From the looks of it, there are a lot more rules coming for Warhammer 40k this weekend. GW just posted the table of contents for the new Vigilus Defiant, and some of the new rules below as well.
From competitive to casual, there looks to be something for everyone in this book judging by these narrative previews:
Campaigns will be coming to the game designed for 4-12 players and the missions will be based off what’s been going down at Vigilus. Exclusive stratagems will be coming to each game as well. For example:
3CP- Call in Reinforcements: Select a friendly unit that was destroyed earlier in the game, you may put that unit within 6″ of a battlefield edge.
To give players a better feel for how things are going on Vigilus, you can roll off to see what kind of scenery will be on your tables. You may see dense overgrowth, scattered supplies, or broken walls in your clashes.
It only makes sense that planets would be volcanically active in times of war. You can play your games in the middle of a volcanic eruption. You’ll be losing more and more ground to lava each turn you play. And this is just one of the elements coming into play for Vigilus.
Any model that passes through the lava that doesn’t have the FLY keyword is immediately destroyed. Imagine tarpitting up a Knight to watch it get swept away under a tide of lava.
More Detachments on the Way
The Indomitus Crusaders look like the formation built around the Veteran Primaris units. From what we can see one of their stratagems turns their stalker bolt rifles into snipers for a turn.
- 1CP-Target Sighter: use this stratagem on a unit of Veteran Intercessors. They may target enemy Characters even if they are not the closest unit.
- 1CP-Liberators: Use this stratagem in the fight phase for an Indomitus Crusader unit. Every hit roll of 6+ counts as 2 hits instead of 1.
Eldar are getting the Windrider Host formation for just 1CP. This unlocks the Wild Rider Warlord Trait. Unfortunately, we can’t see what else the formation will be getting.
- Wild Rider Warlord Trait: Your Warlord and friendly Windrider Host units within 6″ can charge even if they fell back earlier in the turn.
This is the first time we’ve seen a faction get more than one formation. Orks have already had one of their other formations called the Blitz Brigade previewed first. With that being said, if you see a formation for your faction that doesn’t sit well with you, there’s probably more for you to pick from!
We can’t see what the formation gives the Orks besides their Shiny Gubbin and boy is it a Gubbin to behold.
- Dread Waaagh’s Shiny Gubbinz: Da Souped-up Shokka: Range 60″ Heavy 2d6 S 2d6 AP -5 D d6.
Marneus Calgar
With Marneus going full Primaris, he’s bringing some Primaris guards with him. The Victrix Bodyguards are new Primaris units that have power weapons and storm shields. We don’t know if players will have the option to pay points for his guards under his selection (similar to Celestine and her little angel followers) or if these guys will be something like an Elites choice.
Games Workshop did seem to indicate in a recent preview that they could be attached somehow to Guilliman as well.
Keep an eye out for more previews to come as we inch closer and closer to Vigilus Defiant’s full release.
