3rd Place: Collin McDade – Orks
2nd Place: Justin Moore – T’au Empire
1st Place: Matthew Allee – Black Templars
Matthew’s Black Templar list was led by Helbrecht for a fantastic squad leader and body, an Ancient for combat buffs, a Judiciar and Emperor’s Champion for solo melee threats, a Lieutenant for lethal hits, and lastly, a one w/ combi for a great lone operative that can help siege a key objective.
Three Assault Intercessors with Jump Packs bring in mobile melee threats, while a Land Raider is a larger tank with pretty good shot output for a transport.
Three units of Word Brethren bring in even more melee threats, this time trading mobility for more raw power in combat, followed up by the factions’ best melee unit in a shield/hammer Terminator squad.
There you have it: the top Warhammer 40k army lists from the WarGamesCon 14 were ruled by Black Templars, Orks, and Tau.
Matthew’s Black Templar army came out on top thanks to its focus on efficient melee threats. They brought in strong units that excel in melee but didn’t forget options that can still perform in ranged situations. Overall, studying these army lists offers some insight for newer Warhammer 40k players and pros alike.
