What the DG FAQ May Mean For Guard Codex

imperial guard hor wal

There might be a new way to play your Imperium armies that will help you keep your units alive a little longer, thanks to the Death Guard codex FAQ.

The recent Death Guard FAQ had a question in there, and the response opened doors for all the other factions in the game.

Death Guard FAQ

Games Workshop used Chaos Space Marines and Death Guard codecies as examples, but they did not say it was specific to them. The way it’s written says if you have access to a Stratagem because of a detachment, it can be used on any permitted target, and they do not need to be from the same faction.

So, if you’re Imperial army is battle-forged, and you take a detachment of Imperial Guard, as well as a detachment of Space Marines, then they, or even other Imperium units, may get to use the Imperial Guard Stratagems that do not have Astra Militarum Infantry/Vehicles or other specanywhere in it.

Astra Militarum Stratagem

So now that you’ve officially opened the doors for your Space Marines or any other Imperium units to use a Stratagem from the Astra Militarum codex, why not give them a +1 to their Save rolls for 1 Command Point…

Take cover is probably going to be one of the best ways to take advantage of this rule. It’s an Astra Militarum Stratagem, but it doesn’t state that it has to be used on an Astra Militarum unit. Bring a detachment of Guard, a detachment of Space Marines (or other Imperium factions), and watch the lifespan of your Primaris increase significantly with a 2+ save roll.

The Astra Militarum book is just one example of how you can use this new FAQ. How are you going to use it in your army?
